Getting that afternoon swing going on during this extended Oregon summer! The weather SHOULD be switching to a more “swingy” vibe real soon, and that should get those fish sniffing around some flies again! It’s been a crazy season……low water, necessary closures, and some opportunities in between where runs were healthier and trout were plentiful as always. We are ready for the great switch to turn on, and the rain to finally come.

WHAT IS THE RED SHED?
The Red Shed Fly Shop, owned and operated by Mike
"Poppy" Cummins and his family, is an icon for spey casting steelheaders fishing Idaho's famous
Clearwater River. The red shed, located near Peck, ID, offers a complete range of tackle and gear for fly fishermen, including rods, reels, fly line, flies, and tying material. But, what sets this shed-of-a-fly-shop apart is its focus on die-hard spey anglers.
Poppy, an avid steelhead fisherman, occasionally finds time to fish and passionately advocates for Idaho's famous B-run of steelies. Early each fall, he hosts the Clearwater Spey Gathering and Barbecue at the Lenore rest stop, a highly anticipated event for spey casting enthusiasts. And we're excited to announce that it's coming back!

There’s a lot to love about the OPST Rod line-up, but this 11’ 7wt is almost too much fun! God in tight, and can absolutely reach out with a load if that’s the game. Such a fun rod!

Well at least the trout spey fishing has been stellar!

We have a full lineup of rods, lines and sink tips that are tailor-made for , on both single hand and rods in appropriate sizes. The season will only get better as things cool and the weather hopefully gets a little wetter. For now, watch those water temps. Remember, once the H2O temps hit the 60’s, it might be time for bass!

We got something for those, too!

The getting is still pretty good for the trout spey scene! So long as there’s cool water, we have been able to find fish. Watch those water temps, and stick to dawn patrols when the weather spikes. With the lack of summer steelhead opportunities the trout Spey scene has been a savior!

With all the unfortunate steelhead closures this season, we have been taking a step back from those fish and concentrating on another love of ours, trout spey! We have been having a blast with our 3wt, 4wt and 5wt rods all over the place, enjoying the “little things” and being surprised by what we DO find.

We are at a crossroads with summer steelhead on the West Coast. While we should NEVER abandon our efforts to recover those fish, we do think that that can be a frustrating endeavor that requires a place to take a break from all the closures and armchair fisheries managers. We let Trout Spey be that place!

Ok folks…..it’s time for a contribution for !!!

As you all know, Spokane Washington was the recent victim of a horrific wildfire that tragically took 700-some homes and forced the evacuation of tens of thousands of people. The time and money that it will take to heal this community from such a thing cannot be underestimated.

Our Ops Manager is putting a bunch of his awesome Muddlers and Hobo variants up for auction! Top bidder wins a dozen Hobo’s and half a dozen Muddlers, as well as a couple surprise flies thrown in for good measure! This will be a great summer steelhead fly collection for anywhere those fish swim, from the Grand Ronde and Clearwater to the Rogue. Bidding starts at $100, and ends at 1PM on 8/12/26!

Once the winning bid is announced, we’ll provide that person with the link to donate, and send the flies. Remember, this was a horrific and tragic event, and our fellow Wash*tonians could use some pull-together right about now. Bid away!
