I had a great day with Alain and Brian. This is Alain’s second visit and is coming back in the fall. Brian had never really fly fished. He was tossed in at the last minute due to Bill’s work load. So we hit the water from 7:30AM and wrapped things up by 2PM. It was a sunny 54 degree start warming to a pleasant 79. They were very satisfied, but they wanted to get back home. The water is a clear 2.3’ of flow. The morning water temperature was 58 degrees and only warmed to 62 degrees. That is stellar! A lot of Tricos, but still nothing feeding off the surface. So, we fished with nymphs off indicators and the bite was on. I’m not even having to bottom bounce the nymphs, so when the indicator twitches, “Set”. Can’t say it enough. These wild trout take so light. They had a great day. We at least 15 on, two big boys lost, landed 2 nice rainbows and two small browns.
We have cold water and the long-range weather outlook is incredible for July fishing. Don’t hesitate to get on the water with me.

Blue Line Brook Trouting, 06/10/26
Man it has been about two years since I did a all day brook trout trip. Tom and I fished last year and that is what he wanted this year. I forgot how darn fun it was. We set off at 8AM and finished by 3:30PM. It was sunny and a humid 72 degrees at my house. By the time we arrived into the mountain valley is was sunny and 65 degrees. The mountain streams are flowing so well for mid-June. Plus the two streams that we fished, still had water temperatures at56 degrees! There were a ton of small Yellow Sallies hatching. Tom put together his favorite two small bamboo rods. He sets one up with a dry and the other has a wet fly. Whatever one he was not fishing, I held onto it. It was a great day, only other breathing creatures we saw were deer and squirrels. Tom landed numerous handful size to a few 6 to 7 inch brook trout. It sure was fun.

I had a fun time with Tom and his good buddy Paul. Tom and I have fished earlier this year and he wanted to to spend more time with Paul. Both are very good anglers. We fished from 8AM until 1:30PM. It was sunny, but we were under full clouds by 11AM. Water was perfect again. It was a little tinted and 58 degrees. Midges, caddis and craneflies were observed, but not much on the rise. Nymphs did the trick. Landed three small wild browns and a fair number of 13 to 17 inch rainbows. Pretty good morning and we all had a great time.

Broc Miller Precision Fly Fishing

West Branch Conococheague 6/6/26
Water Temp: 66
Hatches: no prolific hatches

Unnamed Tributary
Water temp: 56 degrees
Hatches: lots of midges, a few sulfurs, and a few caddis

Today I met with Greg at 8:00 this morning and him and I set off to catch fish and learn to better understand reading water. As I took a water temp my hopes weren’t so high. So for the first part of the day that’s exactly we focused on learning and catching a trout would just be a bonus. Greg was no stranger to fly fishing and we were u fish are a good indicator on reading water because they have similar feeding habits and will sometimes sit the same places to feed as trout do. As we worked different water we got a brown trout then a tank fall fish and set out to a colder mountain stream for natives which Greg really had his hopes set on. The natives brook trout, hawks, deer, snakes, you name it were on the move. We saw a little of everything today. The brook trout were fired up. Greg had close to 30+ takes with getting around 20 of them to the net making for an insanely good day on the water and we both had a blast.

Reach out to Broc Miller for a great day this summer. 717-331-7390.

Sorry that I have been slow on the reports. I have been leaving the stream and heading straight to FVFD Carnival to help with cooking of the chicken corn soup. I volunteer every year.
Both days, the water conditions were the same. The flow is a steady 2.5’ and 57-61 degrees with caddis, midges and cranflies flying around. Not much rising. I had two very gifted fly anglers each day. Each day is was 60’s to start and high 80’s at the end. Only difference was Friday Josh and I had abundant sunshine and Tom and I fished under very overcast skies. I am sure that this is why I had two completely different days on the water.
Friday Josh and I fished from 8AM until 2:30PM. It was a tasking day. We did not give up. We fished with nymphs, but super light takes, so we switched off to streamers. Josh ties this streamer that drives these trout nuts. He had a beast of a brown on, had several short strikes and at the end we netted a heavy 21” rainbow. We had a great time and Josh is looking to come back in October.
Saturday, Tom and I set out with flies he had tied. He had a jig nymph that was so simple to tie and I liked it. Well that darn thing crushed them. We fished from 8AM until noon. It had to be the overcast skies and the front moving in. It was not long into the morning and we had three browns and 2 rainbows in the net. Tom, rolled a huge brown, which looked to be about 22” and an even larger rainbow. We saw both. By the time we ended Tom landed 11 in total including a nice 21” rainbow.
I always love fishing with these guys. We have known each other for so many years. The way the weather is, July is in full swing. I would seriously consider getting on the Antietam Creek with me.

I had an amazing day with Cliff and Dave. Both have gone through guide school and they are slowly guiding themselves. It was a warm, sunny day. The water is still in perfect shape. not many bugs hatching and water was 54 to 57 degrees. They fished both nymphs and streamers. It started quickly both Dave and Cliff landed 16 inch browns. Then something I never saw happened before, the stream just flat shut down until 1:30PM. Then all hell broke loose. It was one trout after another. They landed another 11 nice rainbow. Lost one at the net around 22 inches. Ended the day with a beast of a brown measuring 22 inches. What a great and crazy day.

I had a great day and a half with Scott and John. Both days were sunny, 50’s in the morning warming to mid 70’s. John had never fly fished and Scott can, but just does not get out much. We fished Antietam from 8AM until 2PM on 6/1. The water is holding steady at 2.5 and still around the 55 degree mark. It was clearing, but not much hatching so the bite was on the bottom again. I worked with John and he really picked it up fast. While I was with John, Scott landed a small brown. It was not long after John got his first small brown. It was a day of many missed and lost trout. One was a beast of a rainbow. Still we put five more in the net.
Scott had heard about the “Jig” so they wanted to spend the morning on it before departing for their homes. The Jig is in fantastic shape, great stained flow of water and still 58-54 degrees! There was some caddis and rising trout. We fished dry/droppers and did very well. They missed a few and we put 3 rainbows and three browns in the net. It sure was a great time and both hoping they can come again when life slows down.
It is shaping up to be an excellent summer. Early July is now in play and I would not be afraid to get on the calendar.

Been waiting for this for some time. Misha booked a day with me, but asked for a change to bring his son. At a young 7yrs old, he is the youngest fly fisher I have ever had out in 32 years. So we made it work. We fished under sunny skies from 10AM until 3PM. The water is still perfect flow, 54 degrees. Not much was hatching. I sent Misha on his way while I fished with Teddy. He was doing OK with me. He had one small brown on. I knew he could do better and found out he is very, very shy. So, at the end I told Misha I would stand on the bank and you two go into the water. Holly COW!!!! that 7yr old made a grown man about pass out. I could not believe how he could cast. Ted is the next USA youth kid! He missed two. Misha had a good time, landing a small brown, small rainbow and a chunky 15 inch brown. Misha can flat out fish. We all can’t wait to do this again. Misha is the president of Tidal Potomac Fly Riders, so if you are interested, check them out. They are in DC and the second Monday of every month is their monthly meeting that they call “Beer Tie”. Sounds like a whole lot of fun.

Joe and Ryan had a blast of our water today. It was a cool 53 degree 8am start. Under the sunny sky, warmed to a pleasant 78 degrees. The water could not be in better shape. A slight stain, flowing and 2.6’ and still a cool 54 degrees. Saw just a few caddis on the water. They both were very skilled fly fisherman and we fished Euro all day. Fished just a select few nymphs. All I needed. I did not get many pictures since these two were spaced apart. They just needed to be shown runs, pools etc. and they were just fine. Joe got us started landing two small browns. Ryan soon followed with hie first being a 16 inch rainbow. By the time we called it a day ay 3PM, they put at least 6 more browns and 5 more rainbows in the net. Other than some 7 to 10 inch wild browns, most of the catches were 14 to 18 inches. July is starting to book for Antietam. Mother nature has been good so far with rain and cooler air temps. This trend looks to continue.
