Took the Midge on its maiden trip for southern Appalachian Brook Trout. The fish cooperated and the rod performed flawlessly.

Finished the 6’3” 4 weight PHY Midge taper. This rod is light as a feather and will cast a 4 weight floating fly line 60+ feet with ease!
This will be a great small stream rod for trout up to 5 pounds (I base this from other folks testimony who have fished this taper for years).
I’m not much of a photographer but I’ll try to get some better photos this week because these pics just don’t do it justice.
I flamed the bamboo culm in a manner that would produce a finished rod with dark spirals, it worked but it’s very hard to see in the photos.
The glass-like finish doesn’t show in these pics.
I wrapped the cork grip with rattan and then drew/wood-burned an Adam’s dry fly and an elk hair caddis on the grip, once again the pics didn’t show the detail very good.
Anyhow, I’m very impressed with this rod and can easily see it serving my needs at least 80% of the time. It could easily be the ONLY rod that I need for Redeye bass, Brook trout and for all stream fishing in NW Alabama.
