I realized something surprising about my workouts this week.
I always log in my Watch when I start and finish an exercise, but I rarely go back and actually look at what I’ve done over the week. I just check calories and move on.
Now that I’m swimming 5 miles for Claudio, I had to dig into my swim data… and honestly, it wasn’t even easy to find. But when I did, I was surprised.
I don’t really consider myself a swimmer anymore. I only swim when there’s a gap when kids don’t show up or I have 30 minutes before a strength class. I’ve always been a cardio athlete, so I default to swimming, running, or jump rope without thinking.
Lately I’ve been trying to focus more on resistance training because I know it matters as we get older (sarcopenia). But the truth is, I don’t enjoy it as much. Unless it has HIIT or some cardio in it, I don’t always feel like I’ve actually exercised.
And I’ve noticed something quietly happening in fitness programs: cardio is slowly being pushed out, even from classes I used to love.
I can’t help but wonder how much I’ve just gone along with that without questioning it.
To be honest, I need structure for weights. A class, an instructor, otherwise I just won’t do them. They feel boring and tedious for me on my own.
But the data doesn’t lie. When I include cardio, my body responds differently. When I don’t, I see it too.
And that made me realize something:
We tend to define “exercise” as the thing we don’t enjoy. For me, that’s weights. For others, it’s cardio.
But when I looked at my swim data, even with interruptions talking, teaching, stopping and starting .I’m still hitting about 1,000 yards in 13 minutes, which is a strong, advanced pace for a non-competitive swimmer and overlaps with structured training efforts in competitive swimming. In 30 minutes, I’m around 2,000 yards, mixing in more than just freestyle or long sets. A few times a week.
It adds up. A lot.
And I didn’t even realize it.
I guess strength shows up in different places for all of us.
Now I just need to bring that same consistency into the things I don’t naturally love… like strength training.
That’s the real challenge.
But I’m very grateful for Claudio I get to swim, otherwise the story would be very different .😆
Lift heavy if you want but don’t forget the muscle that never rests.
Just keep swimming , swimming, swimming ….
And apparently… I’m still a swimmer 😅🏊‍♀️🏊‍♀️🏊‍♀️

“What do you consistently do that you’ve stopped noticing but others might see as your strongest quality?”
I’ m curious, just leave me a comment below .

So , if you feel called to join this journey against cancer , and help the life and family of this Wonderful veterinary friend , here is a unique oportunity to make a difference .

Some of you know I was preparing for a 5 miles swim fundraiser for cancer research. But life has a way of reminding us where we’re needed most.

This time, I’m swimming for someone very personal, my dear friend Claudio.

Claudio is not an organization. He is not a campaign. He is a human being, a loyal friend of many years, and someone who has dedicated his life to caring for so many of our lovely pets and families. Originally from Brazil, he studied Veterinary Medicine at USP and worked with large animals , horses and research studies. After years of hard work, he built a life in Alaska with his beautiful family, his wife Aisha and their daughter Isabella, and fulfilled his dream of opening his own veterinary clinic, 🐕‍🦺🐩🐕🐶🐈🐈‍⬛ 🦆🐥🦅🕊️

Recently, everything changed.

Claudio was diagnosed with glioblastoma. After biopsy and surgery, he had to make the incredibly difficult decision to close his clinic
and focus entirely on his health and treatment.

Now, while Claudio fights for his life, his wife Aisha carries the weight of everything else caring for him, their daughter, navigating this unimaginable journey.

So today, I’m redirecting my 5 miles swim, which we might change the challenge and raise above 5 miles bc we have a whole month to complete, but not be more confusing than already is in this country, it s all Miles, yards, polegadas 👍, inches, 🦶feet 🐾, ounces , 🐆, pints and gallons . What in the world is wrong here? So translating to the rest of the world
5 miles =8.0467 kilometers = 8,800 yards. = 352 laps (25 yards pool). I believe I can swim a little more so let’s see how this goes.

I’m swimming for Claudio. 🏊‍♀️

If you feel called to support cancer in a real, immediate, and deeply personal way, this is your opportunity to help a family who truly needs it.

You can donate

No amount is too small. And if you’re not able to give, sharing this message can make a real difference.

Friends support friends. And right now, Claudio needs us.

Thank you for your love, your prayers, and your support.

I will swim for you, my friend. 🏊🏽🏊‍♀️🏊‍♂️

Swimming with my grandson for the first time❤️ It was the highlight of my trip. I witness so many wonderful grandparents over the years bringing their grandchildren for swim lessons , amazing grandparents by the way and I have always envied for not having the same opportunity. I’m thankful to borrow their kiddos for a time but nothing is like having your own, the real one in your arms. I was the happiest grandmother in Coeur d'Alene, Idaho. I'm so proud of this little pumpkin, for his achievement . He was so positive and brave the whole time and he is not even two years old yet . I thought he would be tired and done in 30 minutes . What ?? After 1 hour and a half he was still going on and cried when we had to leave . It was so much fun. In a short time he went from being hesitant to submerge to fully submerging while playing Humpty Dumpty on the wall, , he learned crocodille walk with his hands and tummy down, towards the end he was diving and reaching out for some rings underwater horizontally, blowing bubbles submerging and having fun. I wish I could come every week to swim together.
This Fitness Center,
Ray & Joan Salvation Army Kroc is simply amazing. I have never seen anything like that. The aquatic program includes water safety, swim lessons, adaptive swimming, competitive swimming, masters swimming, aqua-fitness, and water polo.
During Spring, they receive 32 schools, sbout 1750 third graders for water safety lessons.
There's a 10-lane pool for laps and swim meets, master swimming, a leisure pool with a waterslide, lazy river, interactive play structure; two whirlpools/hot tubs, a current channel (vortex), and an inflatable obstacle course. Impressive, massive fitness Center.
