Every watercraft warrants a second opportunity.
This attractive Buffalo began its life as a Turner Bend rental. After to two private ownerships, it was brought to our workshop for refurbishment. We eliminated the Bondo patch and substituted it with a fiberglass and epoxy repair. Then the tractor seats were upgraded to foam-padded versions. Upon completion of the cleaning and 304 coating process, she was ready for relaunch. We are grateful for the contributions of Gary, the Buffalo Canoes team, and the latest owner. The boat is now poised to resume its aquatic endeavors. Buffalo Turner Bend

There is no doubt Blue Hole canoes are one of my favorite boats to work on. However, I received a call from a customer that I was a bit apprehensive about because I had seen the video of the recovery of the boat after being pinned around a stump on the Buffalo river for two days! When he sent pics of the boat, my fears were confirmed. It was tore up from the floor up! But I said ok, bring it.
I have never had the chance to install aluminum gunnels before and I have to say, they are the inspiration for vinal gunnels. The difficulty lies in that they are made straight, but need to be boat shaped before installing. After struggling for half a day, I designed a bending jig. Not great, but functional.
Next came attempting to get the hull back into the shape of a boat. Two hours of heating and massaging returned the plastic to something resembling a boat. A small two sided repair for a hole punched through by a stick during the pinning was needed.
There is a ton more work that could be done for a more cosmetically appealing boat, but I think the customer wanted to see the results from the restoration before committing to the additional work.
All in all, it was a great project that taught me a few new tricks that I hope I can use down the line.

The Old Town Pack has been a standard of the solo production boats for a long time. A customer picked one up recently and wanted it customized.
We added our kneeling seat and oversized kneepads along with thigh straps. At 12 foot long this beauty is ready for the class1-3 river running Arkansas can throw at it!
Thanks for business Neil, see ya on the river!

This past weekend was nothing short of phenomenal! It's not often that one can assemble such a large group of like-minded individuals in a single location. The Dillsboro River Company, based in Dillsboro, North Carolina, hosted the first-ever Blue Hole Rendezvous.
On Saturday morning, our group set off onto the rain-swollen Tuckaseegee River. The first two boats to launch were the original prototype boats, numbered 0001 and 0002, which were built by the company 50 years ago. Impressively, these vintage boats handled the river with the same agility as if they had been recently built.
The gathering showcased an impressive array of boats from various parts of the country. In the evening, we sat around the campsite with the company's co-founder, listening to the unique stories and histories of each boat, including their travels, current state and restoration processes.
Prizes were awarded to recognize the boat that had traveled the farthest, the oldest boat, the most visually appealing boat, and the most weathered boat.
I am certainly looking forward to the second annual blue hole rendezvous!
Attached are some photos stolen from other people from the weekend.
