Congratulations to Dearborn’s Elayna Bowser and Wyandotte’s Chelsea Collura, who shot a 3 under par 67 during the local qualifier at Dearborn CC today to qualify for the 2027 U.S. Women’s Amateur Four-Ball!

The 2027 U.S. Women’s Amateur Four-Ball will be held May 15-19, 2027 at Farmington CC in Charlottesville, Va.

What a great two days! Portage’s Chet Vandenberg captures the 44th GAM Mid-Amateur Championship title after posting rounds of 67-72 for 3 under 139!

Bloomfield Hills’ Scott Strickland finishes with a birdie on 18 and takes runner up.

Taking the Mid-Senior title is DeWitt’s Nate Clark with a 2 under 140.

Kevin Vandenberg adds his 3rd Senior title in the last 4 years. John Leach was runner-up.

And Steve Maddalena captures the Super Senior title after making birdie on the 2nd playoff hole against Kerry Buettner.

GAM MID-AMATEUR CHAMPIONSHIP: DeWitt’s Nate Clark Leads

HARBOR SPRINGS – Nate Clark of DeWitt set the pace through the first round of the 44th GAM Mid-Amateur Championship presented by Stifel Investment Services.

Clark, who won the 2021 Mid-Amateur title, shot a 4-under 66 on the Donald Ross Memorial course at The Highlands at Harbor Springs Wednesday, and finished just in front of Chet VandenBerg of Portage, who shot 67.

Evan Johnson of Grosse Ile and Paul Wolcott of Macomb were next after shooting 69s.

Five golfers shot 70, including 2019 Champion Mike Coriasso of Royal Oak, Nick Winiarski of Pontiac, Tyler Hering of Muskegon, Mike Kinnie of Clinton Township and Scott Carlton of Hudsonville.

The field of 216 golfers is split in half to take on the Arthur Hills and Ross courses for two days of stroke play competition, and an overall Mid-Amateur winner (age 25-and-over) and winners in three other age categories will be determined (Mid-Seniors 45-and-over, Seniors 55-and-over and Super Seniors 65-and-over).

The Mid-Amateur and Mid-Senior golfers played the Ross Course and the Senior and Super Seniors played on the Hills Course. They switch for Thursday’s final round.

Four golfers were tied for the lead with 1-under 71s in the Senior Division, including Mike Anderson, the 2020 Mid-Amateur Champion, Kevin VandenBerg of Pulaski, NY, the 2000 Mid-Amateur winner, John Leach of Macomb and Steve Nichols of Lansing.

David LeVan of Traverse City was next with a 72.

Kerry Buettner of Grandville fired a 5-under 67 to lead the Super Senior Division.

Michigan Golf Hall of Fame member Steve Maddalena of Jackson shot 70 to stand in second place.

Greg Zeller of Jackson and Michigan Golf Hall of Famer Randy Lewis of Alma, each shot 71.

Congratulations to Stacy Slobodnik-Stoll on winning her 4th GAM Women’s Senior Championship in 5 years. After posting a 75 yesterday, she shot a 4 under 68 to finish at 1 under 143 for the 2 day tournament.

DAVID VACLAV ADVANCES TO ROUND OF 32 AT U.S. SENIOR AMATEUR

David Vaclav of Flat Rock won his Round of 64 match Monday and advanced to the Round of 32 Tuesday in the U.S. Senior Amateur Championship at Baltimore Country Club in Maryland.

Vaclav, won the first five holes of his match and eventually turned back Gerard Connolly of Ireland 4 and 3.

He will play Tony Wise of Georgetown, KY, in Tuesday morning’s Round of 32. A win in that match would advance him to the afternoon Round of 16. Quarterfinal and semifinal matches are scheduled for Wednesday, and the championship match is on Thursday.

Two other GAM members lost in the Round of 64 on Monday. Greg Davies of West Bloomfield was topped by Mike Sposa of Spartanburg, SC, 2 and 1, and Kevin VandenBerg, formerly of Mattawan, lost 3 and 2 to Tim Hogarth of Northridge, CA.

JULIE MASSA LEADS GAM WOMEN’S SENIOR CHAMPIONSHIP

BRUTUS – Julie Massa of Pentwater shot a 1-over par round of 73 to take the lead through the first round of the 30th GAM Women’s Senior Championship presented by Golf Digest at Hidden River Golf & Casting Club Monday.

Massa, a Michigan Golf Hall of Fame member, is a two-time champion having previously won the title in 2017 and 2020. Both of those championships were also played at Hidden River.

Stacy Slobodnik-Stoll of Haslett, who is also a Michigan Golf Hall of Fame member and three-time Women’s Senior champion (2022, ’23 and ’24), shot 75 to stand second.

Defending champion Lori Schlicher of Lewiston shot 78 and was tied for third with 2018 champion Shelly Weiss of Southfield, and Donna Tepper of Grosse Pointe Park shot 79 to round out the top five.

The field of 88 golfers play another 18 holes on Tuesday to determine this year’s champion.

TWO GAM GOLFERS MAKE MATCH PLAY, ANOTHER PENDING PLAYOFF AT U.S. WOMEN’S MID-AMATEUR CHAMPIONSHIP

Elayna Bowser of Dearborn and Mary Janiga Kartes of Kentwood advanced to match play on Monday in the U.S. Women’s Mid-Amateur Championship at Montclair Golf Club in West Orange, N.J.

Another notable GAM golfer, Kim Dinh of Midland, the 2023 U.S. Women’s Mid-Amateur Champion, could join them if she survives an eight-golfer playoff Monday morning for the final four spots in the 64-golfer match play bracket.

Kartes shot an even-par 70 for 147 and a tie for 16th Sunday to earn her spot in match play, and Bowser, who reached the Round of 16 a year ago in the national championship, shot 75 for 149 and tied for 29th to advance.

Dinh shot 80 for 154 and landed in the tie for 61st with seven other golfers.

Four other GAM member golfers who were in the starting field on Saturday failed to make the 36-hole cut into match play.

That group included Laura Bavaird of Trenton, who last year reached the Round of 16 with Bowser. She shot 81 for 156.

Also missing the cut was Caroline Ellis of Haslett, who shot 81 for 155, Isabella Gimenez of Clarkston, who shot 76 for 166, and Priscilla Harding, of South Lyon, who shot 81 for 165.
