Parker hits a PR 275 x 5 deadlift.

He typically trains 2 - 3 days per week. One day focuses on the squat (we use a safety squat bar.; He recently did 215 x 5). The other day focuses on the deadlift.

We sprinkle in some cable flyes, ab, quad, and hamstring work, and normally get a day of cardio on the echo bike.

Greg Nuckols posted this recently. 2 pieces of advice for those working through New Year's Resolutions:

1) Focus on process-oriented goals

2) Learn to embrace good enough.

Process goals are the day to day tasks that are within your control. You might have a goal to run a 5K as an outcome, but setting up the framework for what needs to be done Monday morning is a process goal. It might be to set your clothes out the night before, and to set a timer so you're in bed at an earlier hour since you'll be waking up earlier. Focus on the process more than the outcomes.

"Good enough." It's not settling for less than your best. It keeps you in the game long enough to see results. All or nothing thinking, the mindset that so many adopt with resolutions, isn't helpful for long term success. You're going to have bumps in the road along the way to whatever your goals are. Find small ways to work around or learn better ways to approach the target.

Sherry began training with me just over a year ago. At the time she began her squats with the empty 33lb. barbell and struggled to get near the bottom range of motion.

The saying goes that we overestimate what we can do in the short term and underestimate what we can do in the long term. Most folks aren't thinking in terms of years when it comes to exercise. it's remarkable what can be done with 2-3 days per week of training. It's not easy, but you will learn something about yourself in the process.
