Warm fall nights have us missing being on Casco Bay and thinking back to the Downeast Regatta.

Last Wednesday Fleet 43 had nine boats on the line for a crisp evening of racing, and the RC treated us to a rare three-race night on the bay. Spirit opened strong in race one, finding breeze and current relief on the left for the win. Boreas answered back in race two, chased by Jasmine and Jammin’. The final race was a nail-biter, with the lead changing three times on a single lap before Mr. Hankey edged out Boreas and Palomino by half a boat length.

With plenty of shuffling on the score sheet, Boreas came out on top for the night, followed by Mr. Hankey and Spirit. Big thanks to the Sheldon J team for running RC!

A huge thank you to Jeff Smith and the rest of the race committee for organizing and running our annual Rich Degrandpre Double-Handed J/24 Regatta this weekend! We had sunshine, solid breeze, and two great long courses around the bay. Boreas set the pace early and never let go, while Mr. Hankey, Spirit, and Second Chance battled it out all the way around the marks. Big kudos to all the crews who worked hard (and flew kites!) in challenging conditions.

The high tide might have had other plans for our mark anchors, but we still got 2 great races off last night thanks to team Chaos Theory on RC. Hope everyone has a happy and safe 4th.

Wednesday wrapped up our spring series with a foggy evening of racing followed by our solstice summer social. Team Sheldon J contended with some tricky conditions on race committee to get one race off with Jammin’ taking the first.

Spring Series has concluded with Boreas taking the series with 9 points, Sheldon J in second with 10 points, and Hankey winning a tie breaker with Jasmine for 3rd place with 15 points.

WEEK 1: SUMMER IS NOT HERE

It is called “Spring Series” for a reason. A strong, cold easterly made for a rather dramatic week one shake out for the fleet. Six boats made it to the line for a WX2 around R 14 off Indian Point. Boreas would win the race after getting a right shift at the top of the first leg. The rest of the podium was a battle right to the last gybe, with Mr. Hankey taking second and Sheldon J rounding off the podium.

Huge thanks to the Jammin’ RC volunteers and for the PYC staff for braving pretty harsh spring conditions.
