*****Benefit Class for the survivors of floods in Nepal*****
The class will begin with a brief overview of the situation in Nepal and the history of yoga in the region, followed by a yoga practice led by YC instructor Peat Purol and a meditation and sound bath led by meditation instructor Laura Burke.
This is a donation-based class, and all proceeds will be sent to the Government of Nepal’s Prime Minister’s Relief Fund, the most direct way we have found to support this cause.
The bulk of the yoga tradition states that yoga developed more fully throughout ancient India. However, Hindu teachings speak of Nepal and the Himalayas as the location of the first mention of Lord Shiva, the Adiyogi (First Yogi), sharing yogic wisdom and teachings.
Recently, a tragic flood swept through Nepal, leaving destruction, injury, and loss of life in its wake. Many sacred sites have also been damaged or demolished.
It can be difficult to watch events like this unfold and feel helpless to make an impact. Yoga practice asks us not to avert our eyes from tragedy, violence, and injustice, but instead to meet them with a grounded body, focused mind, and compassionate heart. From that place, we can begin to take action and offer support. An injury to one is an injury to all. It’s from that intention, this benefit class was created.
Come out a support the people of Nepal and the land.
Thank you Yoga Centric for hosting this event!!!
