You might think "Why is there so much talk about breathing in yoga? It's something we do every moment of our lives! What's the big deal?"
The thing is, your exhale is doing more than just getting rid of air. It can also be an invitation to soften.
When we slow down the breath and make the exhale a little longer, we’re giving the body a chance to shift out of “go, go, go” mode. Your shoulders may drop, your jaw may unclench, and your belly may soften. And sometimes, a pose that felt braced or uncomfortable suddenly feels a little more accessible.
We’re not just stretching muscles or trying to get deeper into a pose. We’re learning how to notice what’s happening in our body and use breath to create a little more space.
So the next time you find yourself holding tension in a pose, don't immediately push harder. Instead, try exhaling and see what changes.
And what's even cooler than that is that this technique works well beyond the yoga mat. It works in touch moments of your life, too.
Come experience it with us at Hippie Soul.
