Gemini Center Aquatic Facility Update 9/4
As most are aware, we had to close our Leisure Pool this past Wednesday due to a chemical imbalance. During this closure we were able to keep the competition pool, sauna, and hot tub open. The chemical imbalance was caused by an overnight power surge where our new chemical controllers communicated to our chemical feeders a need to supply our pool with more chlorine than was needed. We were able to get the pool back in balance and open the following day.
We hear our members and understand their frustrations with these unplanned closures. Our Recreation Department is equally frustrated by these closures and is attempting to provide consistent operations with these issues. Due to these closures, we will soon be crediting each member of the Gemini Center with a 2-month extension on their annual membership. We plan to roll out these extensions after the City signs off on the work and takes ownership of the project. Those that have memberships expire prior to the rollout will receive communication of the extension when it starts.
Lifeguards play an essential role in keeping our pools safe and helping the Gemini Center serve our community. Our hours of operations are directly tied to the number of lifeguards that we can schedule at a time. Please consider joining our staff or spreading the word that we’re hiring. Not currently certified? The Recreation Department offers lifeguard certification classes for those interested in joining our aquatics team. No previous lifeguarding experience is required to take the first step. For information about upcoming lifeguard certification classes and employment opportunities, visit the Fairview Park Recreation Department website.
