16 hikers joined Crescent Trail board members for a beautiful hike from Spring Lake Park to Channing Philbrick Park along Irondequoit Creek. Along the way, we shared some local history and enjoyed a perfect day on the trail. Thanks to everyone who joined us! 🥾🌿

Crescent Trail Orange End to End Challenge #2 of 3 is complete. What a wonderful way to spend a Sunday afternoon, hiking with such nice people. We had a delay getting started, but ended strong. This was a great group of hikers who made the hilly 6.5 miles look easy.

The final hike in the challenge will be on Sunday, October 11. Our August 9 hike will start at Spring Lake Park. Hope you can make it.

We are so grateful to Dr. Andrew Hoffman, a professor at St. John Fisher University, for leading Sunday’s hike. Dr. Hoffman was very modest, saying he was just learning about plants, but he was definitely an expert. Everyone learned a great deal about our local environment, about which plants are native and which ones are invasive, how WE can take a part in ensuring a healthy ecosystem for a wide variety of plants and also how to avoid dying from eating deadly toxic plants. The turnout was good, especially considering the dire forecast. We had a bit of rain but it definitely didn’t dampen our spirits. Thanks to everyone for showing up.

Our July hike is the second of 3 hikes on the Orange Trail End to End Challenge. This one will be about 6 miles, and while hilly, is less difficult than the April hike. This hike has some of great sections of the Crescent Trail. We will meet at White Brook Nature Area and a town bus will transport hikers to the end of the April hike, and we will hike back to White Brook. Hope to see you there!

How did you celebrate National Trails Day? 🥾🌿 We spent it at Fairport Canal Days, sharing information about the Crescent Trail and connecting with the community. Thank you to everyone who stopped by our booth - we always enjoy meeting supporters!

Thanks to a four-hour repair effort (and an emergency Home Depot trip) the bridge connecting Orange and Red at Horizon Hill is now safe to cross. Additional improvements are still planned. Follow trail updates at: www.crescenttrail.org/trail_updates

We spent Mother’s Day enjoying the trails and beautiful views at Ganondagan State Historic Site. It was the perfect way to celebrate the day. 🌿🥾

🚲 Informational Meeting: Exploring Shared-Use Trail Opportunities

The Town of Perinton is reviewing the potential for shared-use biking and walking trails on Town-owned properties near Thayer Road and/or the Dewitt Nature Area off Turk Hill Road.

At this stage, this is an opportunity to explore whether this type of use could be a good fit and to gather community input before any future steps are considered.

Join us for a brief presentation followed by questions and discussion. Representatives from the Town, Recreation & Parks, and the Genesee Regional Off-Road Cyclists (GROC) will be available to share information and answer questions.

We encourage you to attend, ask questions, and share your feedback as we begin this conversation.

Sunday’s guided hike through Woodcliff, Horizon Hills, and McCoord Woods was a huge success!

We covered about 6 miles in a little over 3 hours with breaks to regroup and enjoy the scenery. We’re excited about the positive feedback we received and we’ll see you for leg 2 of the Orange Trail End to End Challenge in July!
