GAC Fairfield Over 40 made it two in a row last night. After going 0-0 in regulation, Fairfield scored 3 goals in OT to beat Danbury United to win their second State Cup. That’s 7 trophies in 8 years across all competitions.

So tonight, the Fairfield GAC men’s soccer team will try to complete their Cinderella story in the US Over-40 National Cup. Last night, we beat the defending national champion Florida Kickers in the semifinal 1-0. Tonight, short handed, we’ll try to complete our run to the championship against Jakes Stars from Chicago. Final is at 6pm.

18-0. Definitely a season to remember. It will be tough to do it again, so let's soak in all that glory while we can!

A message from our skipper Jamie Poff: "We did it! We won today 4-2. 18-0. It's only happened 3 other times in the history of the league. Two of those were third division records. One happened in the second division (Waterford 1997). It has never happened in the first division. The league dates back to 1979 so the accomplishment has quite a bit of history to it. Congratulations to everyone for an amazing year.

From a club standpoint you all have set many "records" since the club's inception in 1989:

A +60 goal differential besting the previous mark of +43 in 2002

Our goals against is also the best in club history (17) besting the previous record of 20, also in 2002

We scored 77 goals this season. Not only did this break the previous record held by the club (65 in 2003), but also eclipsed the goal total of our last three years combined (yes, this is not a typo, the club had scored only 72 goals the past three years combined).

So no matter how you slice it up, it's been just an amazing year and an amazing set of accomplishments. I'm honored and privileged to have been allowed to be a part of it and for that I thank all of you. I do love this team."

A message from Lee Weibel:
Gentlemen,

Our team is celebrating 25 years of being in the SASL and being sponsored by the Gaelic American Club of Fairfield.

On October 10th there will be a reunion held at the club with present and past players and friends of the team with food, drink, camaraderie, and stories.

The Over-30 team formed in the fall of 1989 (Where were you?- I joined in '94), with 15 games played, a 3-4-8 record, with 19 goals for and 33 against.
In 1992 we split into two teams an 'A' and a 'B'.
In 1997 'A' team folded and we started in the 3rd division.
In 2002 we went to Over-38 ...finishing 2nd.
In the 25 years we have finished 2nd three times, 3rd three times, 4th five times, 5th two times, 6th four times, 7th once, 8th three times, 9th two times, and 10th once.
The most goals scored was 65 in 2003, the least scored; 10 in 2008.
The most goals given up was 79 in 2001, the least given up; 20 in 2002 (in the O-38).
With every year comes many stories.
This year we are making a new story.

I would greatly appreciate a strong showing to the club for their years of support and their continued support for years to come. The club has been very generous over the years and has been a great place to go after our games, both indoor and out.
The start of the event will be at 7:00 PM with a $20 per person cost which will get you food and some drink tickets.
I hope everyone will attend and be a part of this special event.

Please bring any friends of the team and If you know of any past players, please pass this along or inform them of this event.

I would like to try and get a head count, so please let me know.

If anyone has a photos (of the team) they wish to share please forward them to me soon.

It's been a while since we posted any game-related news. But it's week 13 and Fairfield GAC just keeps on rolling!
On August 23rd we defeated Derby Quitus 5:0 (Robertson x 2, Wiles, Spitzer, Maher) on the road. A week later we obtained a similar result at Cheshire (a 2:0 win behind goals from Maher and unknown) and finally last weekend we beat Ridgefield Kicks 4:3 at home (Robertson x 3, Moczerniuk, pk) despite being down 0:1, 1:2, 2:3. Our goalie Matt Morse saved a penalty kick, which helped the staying-undefeated cause tremendously.
The standings don't lie: 13 games, 13 wins, 39 points, 56 goals scored. Not too shabby! On to the next one - a home clash with Guilford Bell Curve, which we beat on the road 6:2. If we win and Ridgefield/Norwalk lose we'll get to celebrate promotion to First Division with 4 weeks to spare!

In the game vs Newington the magic number was 10. It was our 10th game of the season and we got ourselves a 10th win. It was the most lopsided game of the season as we scored 10 goals (Robertson x 3, Moczerniuk x 3, Chinitz x2, Wiles and Spitzer) against a 10th place team. And we did it all without our #10 - the skipper Jamie Poff! Next week Derby at Witek Park (directions below), 10am kickoff. Be there or else!

WITEK PARK:
Route 15 (Wilbur Cross / Merit Parkway) South to Exit 58 (Derby/Route 34 West). Follow Route 34 West. Go about 4 miles to the fourth traffic light and turn right onto S***m Avenue (Burger King is on the right). Go around the plaza and take the first left onto David Humphreys Road. Go uphill past the stop sign, Bradley School is on the left, and then go downhill to the next stop sign. Turn right onto Sentinel Hill Road. The entrance to Witek Park is on the right (before the reservoir). Drive through the open metal gates onto a gravel road. The soccer fields are at the end of the road. Parking is available.

Route 8 South to Exit 15 (Route 34 East). At the end of the exit ramp turn right onto Route 34 East (under Route 8). Stay on Route 34 East until you go through about 5 traffic lights (you will be passing Tailgators restaurant, a Mobil gas station and a cemetery). Stay in the left lane so that you can turn left onto Sentinel Hill Road. Go uphill about 1 mile, staying left at the fork, past the stop sign. The entrance to Witek Park is on the right (before the reservoir). Drive through the open metal gates onto a gravel road. The soccer fields are at the end of the road. Parking is available.
