On Sunday July 26th, 2026 BLUE WALNUT GOLF TN hosted their FIFTH annual golf tournament to raise awareness of prostate cancer early screening and to raise funds for global research and local patient support. We hosted a full complement of 38 foursomes, 152 players on a beautiful day at the Heatherhurst-Brae golf course in Fairfield Glade. There were two flights of winners with Flight A comprised of Jeff Powell, Curt Camden, Jason Wilt and Tim Combs winning with a score of 59! Flight B comprised of Scott Rearick, Pat Kreidermacher, Ralph Showels and Daniel Knowles won with a score of 65. I wish to thank all the participants because without your participation this event would not be possible.

I want to thank all the businesses that generously contributed through a monetary sponsorship or donation of product or services. We had an outstanding collection of prizes and certificates that kept everyone glued to their seats while enjoying lunch provided by the Heatherhurst kitchen staff, cookies by Leslie’s Sweet Nostalgia and breakfast scones from G.O.A.T.

We tried something new this year; "Buzz for Benefit" and two men had their head or beard (yours truly) shaved to raise funds and raised over $1,000 thanks to the efforts of Don Rohrer!

A special Thank You to the Prostate Cancer Foundation, Cumberland Medical Center, Vanderbilt-Ingram Cancer Center, Boston Scientific and Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran Church, for providing educational materials, product information, brochures, goodie bag swag and golf balls to make men aware that there are resources and support out there if you are on your prostate cancer journey.

A shout out to Jeff Houston and his team that make pulling this together an enjoyable, hassle-free adventure. With all the rain we had the course was in excellent shape, the superintendents and groundskeepers had their hands full and did an outstanding job of making the course playable. The lunch and kitchen staff did a great job of providing a nice lunch that I think everyone enjoyed, something other than burgers and chips on a hot humid day. And to Cody King and Kevin Hamm, thank you! You run a tight ship and kept the flow going and made sure everyone had a great time. It is a pleasure working with you all.

Last but certainly not least, the team that puts this together, all volunteers: Chris and Heidi Olson, Mike and Marsha Vagi, Gerry and Betty Haser, Ed and Sally Lemke, Jeanne Parks and Cindy Ziegler. You are all THE BEST and because of YOU we had a record setting year!

As July 26th approaches and the Blue Walnut Golf TN fundraiser is on the horizon, I came up with a crazy idea! BUZZ TO BENEFIT!

For a $20 donation any man will get a buzz haircut compliments of Cacey and Teri from Micuda Salon!

You could also opt to have your beard shaved!

And so as not to leave the ladies out of this fun time; you can receive a straight cut for the same $20 donation.

Cacey and Teri will be on-site at Heatherhurst Golf Course from noon to 3:00 offering their expert services. This is not limited to players in the fundraiser! You have a son or partner that is sweltering in the summer heat? Come on over and get him buzzed!

It’s a great cause, let’s have some fun! Bald men are sexy!!!!

To paraphrase Henry Ford; you can have any hair style as long as it’s a buzz!

FOURTH ANNUAL FUNDRAISER BENEFITTING PROSTATE CANCER RESEARCH
Raising awareness of Prostate Cancer and the importance of early screening and detection.

Join us on July 27th, 2025 at Heatherhurst Brae golf course, 421 Stonehenge Dr., Fairfield Glade TN, 38558. Registration opens at 6:30am with a shotgun start at 8:00. Foursome spots are currently available.

We are actively soliciting sponsors for this most worthy cause, so please consider aiding our mission by making a donation towards one of many sponsorship opportunities. Your sponsorship is a great way to advertise and connect with the community for a disease that touches many lives. Deadline for both sponsorship support and player registration is June 27th, 2025 and from experience the foursomes fill up fast so get your registration in early!

This year Cumberland Medical Center will be providing vouchers for a FREE PSA (Prostate Specific Antigen) screening to all players wanting to be tested for prostate cancer. This voucher can be taken to CMC at the players convenience and the free PSA screening will be provided. We encourage you to take advantage of this opportunity. One in eight men will be diagnosed with prostate cancer, early detection and treatment is key to successful treatment and longevity.

There are multiple ways to support our mission of raising awareness and funding vital research for this important health issue. Take advantage of one of our Sponsorship options, play golf in the tournament, or make a donation directly to Blue Walnut Golf TN. All profits go to our beneficiaries, The Prostate Cancer Foundation and Cumberland Medical Center, both are registered 501(c)3 organizations.

This year we also offer, for a small donation, memorial ribbons that will be displayed in honor of any man you know that is on his prostate cancer journey or in memory of a loved one that has succumbed to this disease.

💙 September is Prostate Cancer Awareness Month! The American Cancer Society estimates nearly 300,000 cases of Prostate Cancer will be detected this year.

🏌️ Please join us in applauding Blue Walnut Golf TN's tournament helping to raise Prostate Cancer Awareness and donate $1,865 to our Cancer Patient Support Fund to help our local patients in need of assistance with resources such as gas, nutrition and lodging!

👏 They presented this donation in honor of Prostate Cancer Awareness Month at our blood drive with MEDIC Regional Blood Center, where 15 gentlemen had complimentary PSA screening with us.

🏥 We're honored to be a part of such a caring community. Thank you!

💧 PSA (prostate-specific antigen) is a blood test measuring levels that may indicate prostate cancer. Men over the age of 40 are encouraged to discuss their prostate health with their physician and consider a PSA test.

OK gentlemen, September 24th, 2024, MEDIC BLOOD BANK will be at the Fairfield Glade square for a blood drive. They are also providing FREE PSA screenings as part of the Blue Walnut Golf TN mission of raising awareness of early screening for prostate cancer. Our fundraiser benefitted prostate cancer research through the Prostate Cancer Foundation and will also benefit the Cumberland Medical Center cancer patient fund.
So plan on getting your free PSA screening and know your score!
