Tartan Crew Visit our website: http://www.tartancrew.org/ The team races in the fall and spring, while spending the winter season training indoors. Louis.

Tartan Crew is a competitive rowing team that allows student-athletes the opportunity to represent Carnegie Mellon University at regattas throughout the east coast, competing against hundreds of other collegiate rowing programs. Despite having only been established in 1987, the team has proved to be a true contender at large regattas such as the Dad Vails National Championship and the Head of the

Ohio (hosted every October right in Pittsburgh). The team mainly competes with schools within the University Rowing Association (URA), which contains all the schools in Carnegie Mellon's official athletic conference. These include Brandeis University, Carnegie Mellon University, Case Western Reserve University, Emory University, New York University, University of Chicago, University of Rochester, and Washington University in St. However, as the team attends various regattas, other frequent competitors include University of Pittsburgh, Duquesne, Fordham, Lehigh, Penn State, and Duke. We cross hundreds more at large regattas.

• What are your post-grad plans?
updating my status from “Student” to “Unemployed” on my tax forms. I am currently back in Massachusetts living at my parent’s house lol.

• Why did you join rowing?
I had an internship at a maritime robotics company and we would go out on the water in motor boats to perform tests. I grew up next to the ocean and it reminded me how much I love being on the water, so when Mr Thomas O’Brian asked me on the cut to join crew I jumped at the opportunity to say “no thank you” and walk towards the UC before turning around to ask if they were still doing 5AM practices (they were) but this time I really wanted to be on the water so I joined anyway. Very good decision, I wish I had joined earlier.

• What made you keep showing up?
a few reasons: I loved being on the water. Rowing in the morning helped me stay focused during the day. It provided a wonderful community, I loved talking with everyone on the team. I was only able to showing up to the 5AM practices because I had to drive people. I would sleep through every single one if I was not responsible for other people.

• What’s your favorite memory on the team?
I really enjoyed driving people, it was like locking an audience in my car that had to listen to my jokes. and Camp Bob.

• What is your favorite boat to row in?
Coxing the women’s boat is great, they would let me tell jokes. The men’s boats were scary to cox frfr. For rowing, I really liked any of the boats that were well set (and then I would rush the f**k out of the slide) 🫪

• If you were given the chance, what piece of advice would you give your younger self who just joined the team?
“Join the team earlier. You already joined it too late? Bruh.”

• Anything you want your little(s) on the team to know?
Mr. Zeeshan, I hope you keep going to practice and stay in the team. This team is a really special group of people at CMU.

Congratulations Peter 🎉 Best of luck for the future ⭐️!

A look back on CMU Rowing’s 2026 Spring Banquet! 💐

We’re sad to say that our seniors are now officially leaving the team with the end of the semester. Goodbyes were said 🥹, oar awards were handed out 🏆, and the personal belongings of our seniors were passed down to younger generations of rowers on the team.

While we’re sad to see our teammates and friends leave us, we believe that as one door closes another door open. We wish all of our graduating rowers success in their future endeavors and hope to see them next fall at HOTO 💪!

Thank you to our graduating seniors for all you’ve done for the team. You will all be missed 🫶.

Jefferson Dad Vail Regatta Recap!

CMU Rowing has finally ended its season at Dad Vail Regatta. We’re so proud of all the athletes who came and gave their all in the boat 💪, and thankful for the friends and family who cheered us on 🫂. Here are some of the highlights:

Our Women’s Club Varsity 4+ boat placed 5th in the time-trial and the Grand final. The hard-fought grand final row demonstrated incredible grit and endurance, and sets an example to our whole team.

The Men’s Lightweight Varsity 4+ had a strong showing this regatta, placing 4th in the time-trial as well as the Grand final. Congratulations to them for a strong start to their row in the grand final!

Our Women’s 2nd Varsity 4+ placed 10th in the time-trial, and 5th in the semi finals, and 4th in the 2nd finals. We got a great row from this boat including a great sprint in the 2nd final.

Last but not least, our Men’s 2nd Varsity 4+ boat placed 11th in the time-trial, 6th in the semi final, and 4th in the 2nd final. We saw incredible effort from this boat and love to see it pay off in the 2nd final.

Once again, thank you and congratulations to all our athletes for their great effort and attitude this season 🔥. We saw incredible improvement from the team as a whole, and we’re excited to come back next season to do it all again 💪.
