Makoto

Makoto After-school character building program to help kids control their own destiny and live their lives. Finding that path can be difficult. Sit down. Read that.

Makoto (mah-ko-toe): truth, sincerity

No parent looks at their children and thinks… “My dream is for you to be mediocre.” It doesn’t matter who they is or where they come from, every parent wants their kids to:

• Be great.
• Dream big… and realize your dreams.
• Make the world a better place.
• Be strong and be able to handle all that the world will throw at you. Parents want their children to s

tand up and forge their own path through life… wherever it takes them. A parent is one lone voice against a cacophony of influences such as technology… best friends… and the media. It takes a village to raise a child. And Makoto was founded to be part of that village.

“If you don’t design your own life plan, chances are you’ll fall into someone else’s life plan. And guess what they have planned for you? Not much.” -- Jim Rohn

Makoto is a “Shugyo” program. In Japanese, the concept of Shugyo translates to a “forging of the spirit.” And that is exactly what Makoto does. Guides… molds… and inspires children to… DO with INTENT

DO IT. Makoto teaches children to identify their dreams and then reach for them. From early on in their lives children are told what to do. Practice this. Work on those. At Makoto we give kids ability to see their choices. Be creative. And most importantly... think it through.

“Do or do not. There is no try.” -- Yoda

OWN IT. Makoto teaches children to be accountable. Chasing a dream is hard work. So, many times we make our dreams smaller… what we see as more realistic. At Makoto, we make the dreams accessible by teaching kids how to realize what they want... set goals.. and go for it.

“I have failed over and over again in my life. And that is why I succeed.” -- Michael Jordan

ALWAYS MOVE FORWARD. Makoto teaches children to believe in themselves and always work for the future. Whether it’s getting the lead role in the school play... or building amusement parks for a living... Makoto will teach your children to live life with intention.

Yesterday, Makoto campers gave back some of all the good they've been getting all season. They visited Police stations, Fire departments and senior homes to hand out homemade cards and create joyous chalk drawings on their driveways. It was a ton of fun. To finish the day of good deeds being done, campers visited the Fairview Cemetary to clean off headstones, pull weeds and straighten flags. What a cleaning crew!
