This is what it looks like when the practice isn’t a performance.

No one here is trying to be the most advanced in the room or hold the hardest variation of a pose or leave looking like they just stepped off a shoot. They’re just people who showed up, did honest work, and have somewhere to land afterward.

That’s not an accident. It’s what happens when an environment is built without hierarchy, without aesthetic pressure, without the unspoken competition that follows most yoga classes out the door.

When there’s nothing to prove, people relax. When people relax, the actual practice can begin.

I was an anxious kid in an unstable home who learned early that doing things right was how you stayed safe. That belief never left. It just grew up with me and started calling itself discipline.

I was running half marathons, strength training, mom-ing like my life depended on it, checking every box. My hair was falling out and I felt like s**t. I was doing everything right and completely missing myself.

Yoga found me before it was a brand. No mirrors, no music, no performance. Just a practice so precise it cut right through the pattern I’d been living inside without knowing it. The understanding that steadiness isn’t something you earn. That you are not broken. You are patterned. And patterns can change.

I built Sanctuary for the woman I used to be. Capable, driven, exhausted, and quietly wondering why nothing ever feels like enough.

The practice changed my life. Not because I finally did it right. Because I finally stopped trying to.

Something we’ve been wanting to do for a while and it goes live June 15.

We renamed our classes. Not for the aesthetic. Because the old names didn’t actually tell you anything useful.

Gentle. Slow flow. Flow. They describe how something looks, not what your body needs.

Here’s what we’re moving to:

REGULATE — For when your system needs support before demand. Slower movement, breath work, supported postures. Not beginner yoga. The class you take when you’re honest enough to know you’re running on fumes. And yes sometimes the most advanced thing you can do is rest. But not always. Some of us lean into rest when what we actually need is to move. The practice asks you to know the difference.

BUILD — For when you’re ready to move and build real strength without the performance culture underneath it. Breath-led, steady, no keeping up required.

REFINE — For when you want to be genuinely challenged, inside and out. More active, longer holds, stronger sequences. The question here isn’t how hard can you go, it’s whether you can stay present while the practice asks more of you.

MONTHLY RESTORATIVE — Once a month. Fully supported. If you keep skipping it because you don’t have time, that’s the sign you need it most. But if rest is your default and you always feel heavy and stuck, this one alone isn’t enough. That’s what Build and Refine are for.

Layering on more intensity isn’t always the answer. But neither is always pulling back. The real work is learning to read yourself honestly enough to know which one you actually need.

Two new classes are coming to the summer schedule.

Both are still yoga classes.

But they’re designed to give you more context for what you’re practicing and why.

Foundations of Yoga is for students who are looking for more than a workout. We’ll slow things down enough to explore what’s underneath the practice - posture, alignment, breath, attention, yogic teachings, and the broader science and tradition of yoga.

Not beginner yoga. Not a lecture. Still a practice.

Summer Yoga + Ayurveda brings yoga and Ayurveda together in a practical way for the summer months. We’ll work with movement, breath, seasonal teachings, cooling practices, lifestyle support, and simple takeaways you can actually use outside the studio.

And a cool pitta balancing tea too, because if we’re talking about seasonal practice, we might as well taste it.

These classes begin with the new summer schedule on June 15.

Both are included in membership or can be purchased as a drop in.

If you’re looking for yoga with more depth with a focus on breath, attention, steadiness, and teachers who understand the practice beyond the poses, summer is a good time to try Sanctuary.

Our summer special is $99 for 30 days of unlimited yoga.
