Thanks to everyone who stopped by the sugar shack during our Maine Maple Weekend open house. It is always fantastic to have new visitors or to reconnect with friends, neighbors and our loyal customers who keep coming back year after year! We are so happy you spent some time with us and we truly appreciate your business.

For those who have placed additional syrup orders (either in person or via email), it looks like good sap weather over the next few days so we expect to be boiling and bottling next weekend and will be in touch soon.

Thanks again!

It doesn't take long to harvest 3 tons of ice when the ice is this thick. Each block was 16x16x19 and we estimated each to weigh 165 pounds.

Thanks to everyone who participated. It was a great day!

The Crocker Family Forest ski trails have been groomed after the heavy snowfall earlier this week. All the trails (about three miles in total) are in fantastic condition!

Anyone who likes to ski or snowshoe is welcome to try them out.

A color trail map is available at the trail head parking lot located at 905 Greenbush Road, Exeter, ME.

Note we've opened a few small loops off the Maple Glade trail that aren't yet displayed on the trail map, but are open for use regardless.

Enjoy!

Fantastic morning with the whole gang helping with the outdoor oven.

We used a combination of refractory clay and sand for the first coat which is about 2 inches thick, followed by a mixture of local clay soil, sand and straw to create the "cob" mortar for a second coat of about 3 inches.

I used a grout float to smooth everything out after we got it formed and it came out nice. A couple of weeks to slow dry, then I'll burn out the wooden form, add a door and it will be ready for outdoor baking.

As usual, I waited until the hottest day of the year to set the corner posts and lay most of the roof rafters.

We also built an ash hoop form along with a door bump out that will serve as the mold for the cob.

While I was setting the rafters, Chris laid out the pattern for the firebrick and we fired up the tile saw to get everything squared away.

The kids are all coming out Saturday to help mix up the cob (sand, clay and straw) and form the oven. We plan to put two layers over the form ending with six inch walls or so.

Stay tuned!
