Peterson, Mitchell, Wagar, Empey and Sargent Kick Off Memorial Day Weekend with Wins

Everson, WA - 97 cars graced the pit area for the kick off to Memorial Day Weekend at Deming Speedway with racing sponsored on the night by Whatcom County Napa Stores & Stedman Powdercoating. Nightly winners were Jared Peterson, Kyle Mitchell, Breaden Wagar, Dayton Empey and Kayson Sargent.
In the main event of the evening, Jared Peterson drove to win number four on the season in the Andy & Breanna Pellham ride in the Speedmart 600 class. Peterson slid past Kyle Mitchell on lap nine and managed to turn away a late slidejob from Mitchell to retain the lead and take the eventual win. Mitchell concluded a successful night by taking second and Corbin Ramsey ran to a strong third. Ramsey and Peterson were heat race winners, as were Tank Chorney and Brayden Danielson.
Just one race before his 600 run, Mitchell went wire to wire for a dominant win in the Shots 2 Go Espresso 1200 class. Mitchell got to the cushion on the opening lap and was never seriously challenged in running to the uninterrupted race win, followed by Nate Vaughn and Peyton Drake. Vaughn and Drake were the heat race winners.
Former JR Sprint Clay Cup Champion Braeden Wagar returned to Deming Speedway with the NW Focus Midgets and just three races into his Midget career, now has a feature win after leading all twenty five laps on Friday night. Wagar felt some pressure from Shane Smith over the course of the contest but held the top spot the whole way through for the win, followed by Smith in second place and Alex Peck in third. Wagar also won his heat race as did Alex Pacheco.
Dayton Empey drove to his first win of the year in the Doyle Guffie’s Rallye Auto Sales 600 Restricted division. Race leader Ethan McFarland tangled with a lapped car at the start of lap 12, sending him to the back of the field, handing the lead to Empey on lap 12. From there, Dayton was untouchable, rolling to his first win ahead of Ryan Cannon and Owen Hill. Heat race wins went to Jayce Medcalf, Empey, Hill and Samantha Fraser.
Kayson Sargent was also a wire to wire winner on the night in the Capstone Plastering JR Sprints, driving out to a strong lead and racing to the win unchallenged. Second place on the night was Lucas Fisher while third was Luke Coates. Coates, Kole Campbell and Kane Bishop won the heat races.
