Hurricanes are heartbroken and devastated over the loss of our beloved coach, friend, and mentor, Nate Rothman.
Nate’s passion and dedication made a lasting impact not only on his Cat 3 swimmers, but across our entire team. He inspired excellence, and taught swimmers resilience, perseverance, and a love of the sport. In his two years coaching the Hurricanes, Nate poured his knowledge and passion into making us a stronger team and organization. Even while battling illness, he continued to show up time and again, selflessly giving of himself for the benefit of our kids. We already feel lost without his booming presence on the pool deck, but hope we can carry on Coach Nate’s legacy by carrying forward the strength and spirit he instilled in us.
Beyond the pool, Nate was deeply devoted to his wife and an amazing father to his four sons. Our love and prayers are with Kelly, the boys, and the entire Rothman family. 💙💚
Nate’s roots with the Evergreen Hurricanes run deep. He grew up in Evergreen, swimming for the Hurricanes from 1994 to 2003. He set countless team records, many of which stood on our record boards for two decades until his own sons came along and broke them. At Evergreen High School, he was a four-time Colorado State Champion before competing at the University of Arizona. After his own decorated swimming career, Nate went on to coach for more than a decade, including leading programs at CU Boulder and the Colorado School of Mines, and in the Boulder Valley Summer Swim League.
The Evergreen Hurricanes and the wider Colorado swimming community are heartbroken by this loss. Nate’s legacy will live on in the water, in the memories of his swimmers, and in the values he instilled in all of us.
Thank you, Coach. For your time, your heart, and your unwavering love for the sport. You will always be part of our story.
