Columbia just lost a 29-year-old officer - a young dad - at the hands of a career criminal. WHERE'S THE MEDIA OUTRAGE???

Officer Christopher DeLong of the Columbia Police Department in South Carolina was sh*t and k*lled in the line of duty Saturday, Aug. 29, 2026, near Southeast Park off Hazelwood Road.

Chief W.H. “Skip” Holbrook said it was the first time in more than a century a CPD officer had been k*lled that way.

DeLong was 29. He had been with the department since 2024 and came out of the Criminal Justice Academy in January 2025. He leaves a wife and two small children.

The morning started as a domestic call. About 9:27 a.m., officers were sent to the 100 block of Holstein Lane. A woman said a man she had a restraining order against was in her home tearing up property.

DeLong got there around 9:43 a.m. The man was already gone. She gave a description of him and his vehicle.

Minutes after clearing that house, DeLong called out a suspicious person at 951 Hazelwood Road, by the park. Officer David Dymock rolled as backup at 10:41 a.m. At 10:45 a.m., Dymock radioed that officers were hit and the suspect was down.

Holbrook called it a g*nfight. Dymock was sh*t and listed in stable condition.
Police identified the suspect as Adam Dowdy, 33, a white male from Prosperity, South Carolina. He was the same man from the Holstein Lane call.

He also d*ed in the exchange. Holbrook said Dowdy had a criminal record across at least four states and may have been out on bond. SLED is investigating.

“Our hearts are broken this evening,” Holbrook said. “We gather under the worst circumstances you could possibly imagine.” DeLong’s wife wrote that he was the “best dad to our babies” and that she was “living a nightmare.”

A young officer answered a call that should have been routine. South Carolina should sit with what that cost his kids.
