There is a lot of good information in here, but I think it's a little skewed toward the rabidly athletic who have money to burn. These are my guidelines for xc ski dress. 1) What are you doing? Are you skate skiing? Dress like you would for a run in similar weather. Classic? Dress like you would for a hike. 2) Who are you going with? Kids, parents, newbies? Add a layer. Ridiculously fit friends? Drop a layer or 3. 3) What is the Quest? Quick workout? Layer down. Packing a flask? Pack at least one extra layer. My wool poncho from Mexico is a favorite! 4) Cotton kills! But so does overthinking and judgmental attitudes!
