Over the past five days of competition at USAPL’s national championship, The Pit picked up five medals in seven classes, but no gold. That all changed when Addie Fugate took the platform. She finished squats with a substantial lead and just added to it throughout the evening. She finished with a 722 total and a well-earned gold medal!! Congratulations to Addie as the USAPL National Champion!!

We had a really late night as we started weigh-in for session 1 at 5am and the last of our Friday lifters stepped off the platform at midnight.

Josh Wilson and Shawn Davenport represented our teenage team in the T2, 75kg class. It was the largest group of lifters any of our team competed in they finished in 7th and 8th positions. There was ~50lb difference between the third place podium finish and the 8th position. They both did their best with their last deadlifts to make the podium but fell a bit short. Both lifters put up PR totals and represented the team well. I do want to highlight that our lifters all know this is the the largest and toughest meet in the country. They could have opted for a smaller meet or chose not to compete at all but they wanted to compete with the best. That is true champion mentality! We look forward to our final lifter Addie Fugate as she competes this evening with a scheduled start time of 7pm.

Exciting day at USAPL Nationals so far! Jack and Lena Angel represented The Pit in incredible fashion!!!

Both kids took 3rd place on the podium. Jack had the Pit performance of the meet so far. Facing a fourth place finish, Jack needed to pull a meet PR 23lbs to move into 3rd place. His 413lb deadlift was a thing of beauty as he secured his top 3 finish.

Lena improved her total but definitely left weight on the platform with her large jump to try to move to second.

The Pit Power Team is competing this week in Chicago for the USA Powerlifting Raw Nationals. We are sending about 10 lifters to compete and wish everyone the best. The gym will be open for members only with key or digital access. If you do not belong but would like to purchase a day pass or membership, you can do this at our website under Memberships. Once you register and purchase a pass or membership, you are given access to the doors via digital QR code or by Bluetooth.

Regular public hours will resume next Monday, June 15.

The Indiana State Senior Games are kicking off this weekend in Evansville, and we wish all competitors in the games the best!

Be sure to check out the Indiana State Powerlifting competition this Sunday at The Pit Barbell Club, in the Dick Conner Training & Event Center. Spectator fee is $10/person (12 & under free and all Pit members free). There are competitors registered from five states!

We will have great vendors on hand to assist competitors and spectators as well. The Smoke Shack will be available for delicious BBQ.

Bertram Chiropractic and Wellness is supporting all folks attending on Sunday. Massage therapists will be available for 15-minute sessions ($25 fee). This is not just for athletes!! Please feel free to contact us if you have questions or would like to set up a session.

Dr. Jake Reeverts of will also be available to chat with anyone who may need physical therapy, continue PT, or inquire about how Jake can help you recover from an injury through exercise and therapy. He is a tremendous resource!!

The Pit is proud to host what is turning out to be a great day to lift some weight!
