Evanston Red Devil Sports This is a complimentary Facebook presence for the EvanstonRedDevils.net website and will feature sportscast replays and other multimedia.

This Facebook presence complements two websites, three actually, but with a move to consolidate into a single, comprehensive EHS Red Devil presence. EvanstonRedDevils.com is the most recent and elements of RedDevilSports.net (currently offline, but a Red Devil Athletics site devoted to coverage for more than a decade) and RedDevilSports.mobilewebpage.net wiill be combined for the mobile friendly,

responsive and newest iteration, EvanstonRedDevils.com

During more than a quarter-decade of radio play-by-play coverage as the "Voice of the Evanston Red Devils" and a brief two-year stint as the sports editor of the Uinta County Herald, the notion to separate what was, at the time, current complementary content for radio and print from a passion for chronicling the rich history of EHS Red Devil Sports made sense. I dearly miss calling the action as a sportscaster, but when heritage station 1240 AM KEVA went dark, so did my in-depth coverage of Evanston High school Athletics. There are so many other sources doing a fantastic job of covering the present, whom are paid to do so and so much closer to the action and more involved, as I once was, that it makes sense for me to focus on the past and let them handle the present-day road trips, broadcasts, newspaper stories and the like. I don't consider myself any less of a fan and firmly believe in the adage, "Once a Red Devil, Always a Red Devil," but the times have changed. While the new site will still contain schedules and results for what is happening in the here and now, (along with acknowledging and sharing the wonderful accomplishments of current teams and players on social media platforms like this page, I'll leave the in-depth coverage to Jake Hibbard of KNYN Radio, Cal Tatum of the Uinta County Herald, WyoPreps.com and the like. I'll instead go "back, back, back" like an outfielder chasing down a well-hit line shot, to the warning track and beyond! Thanks for your support and understanding and as always, Go Red Devils! And that means Lady Red Devils, too! ;)

Below is the older narrative:

It was decided to split the events, activities and content of what's currently taking place and on the not-so-distant horizon, with a Retrospective Red Devil site, to pay homage to the rich tradition of Evanston High School and Red Devil Sports. The older domain name, RedDevilSports.net, which has seen well over 90,000 visits, will chronicle and promote the present day and future happenings with all things Red Devil. The mobile version of the old site, covering the new, will be released soon. All three sites can be viewed on smart phones and tablets like iPads, but if those devices do not support Adobe Flash, it's more of a text and image version which is displayed; the mobile version, optimized for those smaller devices, will look the same across all platforms. There will be some crossover, as both sites are dedicated to celebrating and honoring Red Devils, and, for now, will share social media presences, like this Facebook Fan Page and a Twitter account but for ease of navigation to showcase the vast amount of content already published, with even more to follow, splitting past with present and future just seemed like the best course of action. Changes aplenty are on the way, with a lot of interaction from Red Devil fans everywhere, so stayed tuned, please spread the word and thank you for checking out the websites and social media pages! "One a Red Devil, Always a Red Devil!"

These sportscasts from bygone days are always fun to revisit, recalling events and memories from exciting times in Red Devil sports history. This is from a remarkable gridiron season for EHS, in the fall of 2007, the last time Evanston vied for a state championship, in the 5A ranks, which existed for five or so years.

But this particular sportscast simultaneously offers up a melancholy vibe, as a number of the voices heard in this radio sportscast are no longer with us -- my best friend and KEVA-KOTB and Magic 99 GM, Bill Smith, my good friend, Roy "Don't Call Me Floyd" Lloyd, and former Mountain View Buffalo and Evanston Red Devil Football head coach Don Dinnel. Also, friends who are mentioned in broadcast, including former Uinta County Herald Sports Editor, Steve Kodad, sportscaster extraordinaire, Rich Bircumshaw, and longtime Green River Wolves color commentator and all-around great guy, Artis Kalivas, are now all cheering on their favorite teams and athletes from that stadium in the sky.

By this time, I was usually recording on site, to provide higher quality audio, but this one had us calling the action into a mixer, coming over phone lines and back to the KEVA studios before being broadcast over the air (and subsequently recorded) to an mp3 file or even a cassette, as we did way back when, originating in the late 1980s.

The date was September 21, 2007, when the Red Devils traveled to Rock Springs to tangle with the Tigers at Tiger Stadium on a Friday Homecoming night in the Rocket City. Evanston was unblemished 4-0 and ranked No. 1 in Wyoming's 5A division, while the third-ranked Tigers boasted a 3-1 record. This game came down to the wire.

I started off with this 1st quarter section, but will add the pregame and 2nd, 3rd, and 4th quarters, along with our halftime and postgame segments in chronological order after posting this 1st quarter.

Russ Anderson joins Roy Lloyd in providing color commentary with play-by-play duties handled by yours truly. The transcription and accompanying text captions are derived via AI, but are in need of some editing, which I'll try to manage as time allows. I'll tag more players, coaches and others once I have some additional free time. For now, enjoy this Red Devil sportscast "blast from the past!"

Here's the second half of a recording from the 1990-91 season of Red Devil Basketball, a home South 4A conference tilt between two undefeated teams, the #1 ranked Cheyenne Central Indians and EHS.

Central was loaded with talent, featuring one of the most athletic players I've ever seen on the high school level in Demetrius Drew. Drew had been recruited by (and at one point, signed with, to the best of my knowledge) the New Mexico Lobos.

The "Bryan and Brian Show" (Seniors Bryan Johnson & Brian Barker) showed the way for Evanston, (both had standout performances in this game) along with Trent O'Brien, Cody Mortensen, Jared Hatch, Cory Jones and Kay Cox.

This 1240 AM KEVA Radio broadcast was recorded to cassette directly off the airwaves and later digitized, with Mike O'Brien providing color commentary and play-by-play from Mark Madia. Robert Shaw also took part in the sportscast but is only heard during commercials in this second half, as are the late Bill Smith and JC Jewitt.

This link will take you to the transcribed audio. Because audio is challenging to add to Facebook, I'll try to convert this game audio into a video with still images to load as a Facebook and/or YouTube video when I'm able, but you can certainly listen in to the 'cast right away.

As is tradition, the Red Devils faithful crowd was raucous, loud and proud! :)
