What better way to celebrate gratitude than by spotlighting an extremely well-deserving Sharp Edger, Kate C. Kate’s one of those people with layers like an onion. At first glance, Kate is strictly business, but then you say hi to her and next thing you know you’re telling her where you were born and how you ended up here. Engage with Kate and you’ve immediately found a friend who listens and cares, and this is just after the first five minutes.
Then, class starts, and since Kate is one of the easiest people to coach, you can’t keep talking while the coach is talking, so you gotta wait to ask her about herself… but then you’re both doing 100 thrusters for time with some burpees, too, (Kate’s fave) and your brain and manners shut off and suddenly class is over and now Kate remains a mysterious onion.
Which is exactly why we needed this Member Spotlight! How freaking cool, kind, thoughtful and hilarious is she?! As we all know, I’m partial to people who love dogs. So, the first thing that stuck with me is that Kate has a sweet baby (they’re forever babies) soul dog. Boom, I knew Kate was cool for a reason. (Anecdotally: my husband rescued a dog this week while I’m out of town - a story for another time - and brought her, Kona, to the gym. Kate was there when they walked in and Kate said to Kona “I don’t know you but I love you.” At the time of this writing I haven’t met my new dog yet but I’m so happy Kate loves her!)
Another thing that stuck with me is her love for Double Dumbbell Box Step Overs. Same, Kate. Same.
ANOTHER thing that stuck with me was how generously she credited quite a few people who inspire her. While I have no doubt she’ll feel like she left so many people out, I admire her willingness to learn from a variety of people, coaches and members, at different stages of their fitness and athletic journeys. Just goes to show how mindful and intentional Kate is at the gym.
I just want everyone to know how much Kate is valued at Sharp Edge. She is consistent, reliable, determined, coachable, thoughtful, open-minded, and an onion with layers to peel over a Survivor fantasy draft. We love you, Kate!
