Received a call late this morning from a guy that had shot a buck quartered to with a bow. He said the arrow looked to enter right behind the shoulder but had a stink to it. They had tracked about 350 yds and backed out.

We arrived about 8.5 hours after the shot and the dogs hit the trail. They worked a long way and we were finding blood on and off but it was all dry. Finally about 1.7 miles in we caught up with the buck. Unfortunately he was not ready to give up and decided to swim the river (another 1/4 mile). We watched and made sure he made it all the way across before heading back to the boat.

We made our way across the river and up the bank to where it finally ended. Shot placement was pretty much exactly where he thought (lung/liver/gut). Crazy how tough these deer can be. Congrats to the hunter on his best bow buck!

Got a call last night after a hunter that got my number from another tracker since we were closer. He had taken a shot on a buck and it run out of the field into a strip of woods. He got down and they looked for blood but couldn’t find any. At that point they started walking around in the direction it went without finding anything.

We arrived and the dogs were at his buck very quickly. It had taken a turn inside the woods and went into a grown up area. Not a very lengthy track but had a very happy hunter.

Unfortunately I pulled his antler off dragging to the field edge but nothing that can’t be fixed.

Thankful for another tracker that passed a track yesterday since we were closer.

Buck was shot at 40 yds (after shooting part of the window frame of the shooting house) and was tracked for 150-200 yds before backing out. We gave it about 7 hours and hit the trail.

Slate had him stopped about 300 yds later. He broke and we were off again. Had to stop the dogs several times due to small properties (not a fan of at all) but he had him stopped 3 or 4 times and we just couldn’t finish the deal. Tight quarters with several houses around was making it tough. He finally broke and run through peoples yard and across the road onto a more wooded property.

It took a while to obtain permission to get on the property but once we finally did it was game over pretty quick.

Total track ended up about 1.25 miles.

Calls have been slow for us the past week but received one on the way home from work yesterday afternoon.

The buck was shot with a bow about 7AM and and there was not a very good blood trail but did get a pass through with a blood coated arrow. The hunter thought the shot looked high and back so he backed out and went back in the afternoon to look. Still could not follow a blood trail so him and a friend went to walking (I don’t recommend doing this…). After no luck they decided to look for a dog.

We arrived about 6:00 and made our way up the hill. The dogs struggled a little to pick up the track through the contaminated area but eventually made it about 400 yds to the DOA buck.

Took a little longer than it should (about 15 min track) but they worked through it. Season end is getting close, hit us up if you need any help.

We made a drive yesterday afternoon to help with the recovery of a great Jackson county mountain buck!

The deer was shot with a bow the afternoon before and we arrived about 22 hours after the shot. The dogs made quick work to recover the buck in about 6 mins. It had traveled about 375 yds from shot site and was DOA but not very stiff.

My brother and I decided we were going to go on meat hunt on some public land Saturday afternoon in between tracking. It was 3:00 before we got setup. At 5:05 he text saying he missed a buck. I went over and checked his arrow as he was coming down. It was covered in blood and blood was on the ground at shot site but I walked around 30-40 yds the direction he ran without seeing any other blood.

We decided to go to the other track and then come back and look for his. We arrived back about 9:00 and made the long 80 yard walk to shot site…😁. The dogs worked ahead but we were not seeing any blood. About 225 yds from shot site they stopped and the buck was DOA.

Not exactly sure why it didn’t leave a blood trail but it happens often. Congrats to my brother. We have not hunted this area in a while and we both saw bucks.

I received the call for the next track while walking out from the 1st. Hunter had shot at buck quartered away and tracked blood for a good ways before losing the trail. I told him I was planning to hunt with my brother and I would come after dark.

We arrived and hit the trail. Slate was quickly to last blood (about 400 yds from shot site). The dogs worked around the open field and made a little loop about 250 yds further to an area they were spending lots of time. We made our way there to find a bed with a little blood in it. They worked around for a while and Slate let out a bark at a location we had just come from.

I made my way there to find the buck standing by the creek. Dispatched and loaded up.

Deer was shot through the upper leg/lower shoulder.

Saturday was a good day, recovered 3 of the 4!

The first one was shot with a bow, ran 450 across a shallow slough (mud flat), hunter tracked good blood for another 150 yds and them stumbled upon a bed about 100 yds further. At that point they looked further without any luck.

The arrow had went in and pulled back out. I was really thinking shoulder shot but we went to give it a try anyway. We arrived about 5 hours after the shot and made the walk back and started the track where the buck come out of the slough.

The dogs got on the trail and made quick work to the bed. They pushed ahead further and started looping back to the closed road. I could see on the Garmin they were circling an area then Slate lined out and was going down the road. A short time later we heard him bark.

We made our way to where the buck was just off the side of the road. After a follow up shot we were loading the buck on the cart.

Total distance from shot was about 1200 yds. Deer was hit back and arrow angled up not exiting.

UPDATE - The one not recovered come back on camera alive and well.

Was able to finish up a good track yesterday. Deer was shot Thursday at 2:00. Seeing how the deer reacted he backed out and called. We started tracking about 9:00 and about 450 yds in the dogs jumped the deer. 500 yards later I toned them back.

With all the swamps and creeks in the area we decided to back out and go back the next morning. We arrived at 10:30 and made the long walk back to where we left off. The dogs were immediately advancing the track. After a few turns they were working around treetop for several minutes.

We were looking around the treetop for blood or a bed. Just a few seconds later (21 hours after the shot) Slate started barking and we knew it was game on. A few minutes later it was high fives.

Deer had traveled right at a mile total.

Ended up being a deer we tracked 2.5 weeks earlier for a different guy.
