It’s a boy! Zara SR “M” by Odin SR decided after 352 days, 3 weeks of around the clock monitoring due to foaling appearing to be imminent, to foal right after we brought Beaux Reves and her foal up for an ultrasound. 10:00 in the morning! The vet tech got to see her first birth! It is a c**t, dark bay, two front whites and the cutest star and snip. All milestones were met in 1.5 hours. I am hoping after three weeks of checking the camera all night to get back into a normal sleep routine!!

Odin’s paternal brother. I believe Odin is one of two approved direct son’s of Kostolany still alive. The other is in Germany. I invite you to look closely at Odin’s offspring. They speak loudly as to the quality he passes on!

Gribaldi: The Black Stallion Who Shaped Modern Dressage 🖤🐴

Few dressage sires have left a hoofprint as deep as Gribaldi. Born in 1993, this striking black Trakehner stallion combined presence, performance, and pedigree in a way that still echoes through the sport today.

After being named champion at the 1995 Trakehner Licensing in Neumünster, Gribaldi went on to stand in Holland and gain approval with major studbooks including KWPN, Oldenburg, and Danish Warmblood. His career under saddle was impressive too, with Edward Gal competing him successfully at Grand Prix level. 🏆

But Gribaldi’s true legacy came through his offspring. He sired some of the most recognisable names in international dressage, including Totilas, Painted Black, Sisther de Jeu, Unee BB, and Girasol. His sons and daughters helped shape elite competition and breeding programmes across Europe.

What made Gribaldi so influential was not just one superstar foal, but the consistency of his line. His progeny appeared in young horse classes, Grand Prix arenas, and major breeding rankings. By the 2014 WBFSH rankings, he was listed in first place as a dressage sire, with Totilas among his leading representatives.

Gribaldi passed away in 2010, but his impact did not end there. Through Totilas, Easy Game, Painted Black and many more descendants, his blood continues to influence modern dressage horses — elegant, expressive, powerful, and unforgettable. ✨

A stallion, a performer, a sire of legends: Gribaldi remains one of dressage breeding’s great names. 🖤

It looks like we might possibly be getting a double-header tonight after all! Beaux Reves SR had a really large, strong c**t, bay with a star and two whites. All milestones have been met at two hours and forty-five minutes. We were just talking about heading back to the house when Zara SR *M* (bottom picture) went down and is grunting a little. Now, we'll hang out longer to see if it's her just napping or if she's decided it's time. Her pH dropped to 6.4 and her calcium level was 400 ppm 11 days ago. I guess when you read about 97.5% of mares foaling within 48 hours at that point, there have to be some in that 2.5% group. 🫩It has been a long 11 days!

Beaux Reves SR just delivered a large baby! More later! Hoping for a double-header tonight. We have been watching Zara SR for two weeks now.

Liver Chestnut?!?!?!
Is she or isn’t she? Seneca Ridge’s breeding program is based on three foundation mares, two of which were chestnut. Zophiel was a chocolate brown liver chestnut under her sparkling white fiber-optic “gray” coat. St Pr. Bell Capri “M” is a true chestnut (although she is listed as a liver in Germany?) But somehow, I am always surprised when I have a chestnut foal 😂! I have only ever had four of them total over the past 23 years, so it always seems special. I have been pretty predictable each time as they start shedding their foal fuzz, thinking I might just have a liver chestnut. This fourth time, I might actually have one! Babelutte SR - what do you think?

Zara SR “M” is now on deck! Since Zara is around day 320 today, I decided to test her. Looks like she is ready to go today or tomorrow! This is a daughter of Odin SR *Ps* in foal to Guildenstern Sol.
