Gary Kern was the architect who designed Aberdeen Golf Club. Gary had a devious streak that comes out in some of Aberdeen’s course features! In particular is hole number 6. Gary named the hole “Guile”. It is a par 5 double dogleg left. From any one of the 5 sets of tees, it appears an easy shot to go left and cut the corner. WRONG! There is a bunker complex on the left. Behind the bunkers, there is no-mow ruff that extends out of sight from the tees. Long hitters can reach the green in 2 if they stay to the right of the bunkers. The Marshall’s shake their head and laugh every time someone tries to cut the corner! I’m sure Gary looks down from heaven and smiles! He named it Guile for a reason.
