HEAT EXHAUSTION vs. HEAT STROKE
With temperatures climbing, it's important to know the difference. One is serious. The other is a medical emergency.

HEAT EXHAUSTION
Common signs:
• Heavy sweating
• Dizziness or feeling faint
• Cool, pale, clammy skin
• Nausea or vomiting
• Rapid, weak pulse
• Muscle cramps

What to do:
• Move to a cool or air-conditioned area
• Drink small sips of water if fully conscious
• Use cool towels, cold compresses, or take a cool shower

HEAT STROKE
Warning signs:
• Throbbing headache
• Confusion or altered mental state
• Hot, red, dry skin
• Little to no sweating
• Body temperature above 103°F
• Rapid, strong pulse
• Nausea or vomiting
• Loss of consciousness

What to do:
• Call 911 immediately
• Move the person to a cooler location
• Begin cooling with cold cloths, ice packs, or cool water
• Do NOT give anything to drink if they are confused, unconscious, or showing signs of heat stroke

A quick reminder for those taking ADHD medications, antidepressants, or other medications that affect temperature regulation,
you may be at a higher risk for heat-related illness.
Stay hydrated. Take breaks. Don't ignore the warning signs. Heat-related illness can escalate quickly.
