Franklin D. Roosevelt served as the 32nd president of the United States from 1933 until his death in 1945. In 1936, his campaign train stopped in Vinita, where city leaders and residents urged him to approve federal funding to help construct the Grand River Dam. A year later he did approve $20 million for the project.
