HIKING TURNER FALLS OKLAHOMA
Turner Falls Park, located in the Arbuckle Mountains of south-central Oklahoma, offers a variety of hiking trails for all skill levels.

Trails:
The park features a network of trails, including the 2-mile Turner Falls Trail (offering views of the waterfall), the 1.5-mile Lost Lake Trail (winding through forests to a tranquil lake), and the 3-mile Collings Castle Trail (leading to the remnants of a historic castle).

Difficulty:
Trails range from easy strolls to moderately challenging routes, with the Turner Falls Park Hiking Trails loop being estimated as a moderate 3.6-mile, 1 hour and 23 minute hike.

Scenery & Features:
Expect stunning views of the 77-foot waterfall, natural caves, Collings Castle ruins, lush forests, rock formations, and Honey Creek.

Things to note:
Some trails might not be well-marked, so having a trail map or using a hiking app like AllTrails is recommended.

WICHITA MOUNTAINS OKLAHOMA
Hiking in the Wichita Mountains of Oklahoma offers a rugged experience through ancient granite peaks, rocky terrain, and mixed-grass prairie, with trails ranging from easy loops to strenuous climbs like Elk Mountain. Trails can be unmarked and challenging, featuring boulder fields and requiring bushwhacking, so preparation with water and sun protection is essential. Visitors also encounter free-roaming bison and longhorns, and some trails provide great views, but many lack shade, making morning or evening hikes preferable.

What to Expect

Unique Scenery: You'll hike through ancient, exposed granite mountains and a landscape often described as a "desert version of Acadia National Park".
Wildlife: Expect to see bison, longhorn cattle, and prairie dogs roaming freely throughout the refuge.
Challenging Terrain: Many trails are not well-marked and involve scrambling over boulders, navigating off-trail, and some rocky climbs.
Limited Shade: Most popular trails offer very little to no shade, so be prepared for hot conditions, especially during mid-day hikes.

Popular Hikes

Elk Mountain: A physically strenuous and steep hike offering 360-degree views from the summit.
Charon's Garden Trail: An out-and-back trail featuring boulder fields, with options to explore further to Crab Eyes.
Longhorn Trail: A family-friendly, easy trail offering varied scenery, including wildlife and unique dams.
