Dear Essex Rum Challenge Competitors,

The 2020 Essex Rum Challenge is just a month away. This year, due to Covid-19, the regatta will be a double-handed event. Courses will be around government marks, and we will have a pursuit start. There will be spinnaker and non-spinnaker classes. In addition to 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place class prizes, we will award the following special trophies:

The Rum Challenge Club Trophy-This beautiful 5 liter cask comes filled with Goslings Black Seal Rum. It will be awarded to the yacht club whose top 3 boats have the best combined performance. First awarded last year, there was a hotly contested competition between Duck Island YC, Off Soundings, and Essex YC, with DIYC emerging as the winner. Can DIYC do it again?

The Rum Challenge Family Trophy-There will be special trophies awarded to the 2 boats in fleet which are sailed by 2 members of the same family and which have the highest and second highest scores in their respective classes. Even if you do not win your class, you may win the Family Trophy.

In addition, we will again have drone photography of the fleet which will be made available to competitors free of charge. Essex Yacht Club always strives to make the Rum Challenge one of the most fun races you will do all summer. This year's event will no exception.
