A big thanks to Mexican On The Run for catering our annual Summer Party.

Jimmy Longoria is always looking out and even brought the food truck when the weather report became concerning.

Congratulations to everyone who was promoted yesterday!

This crop of blue belts have been consistently working hard for years. For some this first promotion was a long time coming but it was filled with the typical set backs. Some stepped away for years and some just had to get out of their own way. In the end they all showed determination and grit to keep putting in the work. Congratulations to Betsy, Jaden, Josh, Kyle, and Nick!

Our lone purple belt came to us with several years of experience already. He just needed a little bit of time sharpening his teeth on our mats. He also happens to be a dentist so that came pretty easy. Congrats to Rich!

Lastly, our new brown belts. They have have been with the gym a few years shy of a decade. Both have put their time in competing and both have taken on rolls as instructors. They continue to exemplify the culture at Baltimore BJJ. Congrats Tim and Nicole!

Joan of Darce took place this weekend, and the women of Team Balance Baltimore had a great day on the mats.

Maggie Giordano, Jordan Keesler, Brenda Perdomo, and Annika Liljegren from our affiliate team at Johns Hopkins brought home multiple wins across their brackets and in the absolute divisions.

Maggie Giordano battled through seven tough purple belt matches, while Jordan Keesler took home gold in her No-Gi bracket. Brenda Perdomo stepped onto the competition mats for the first time as a blue belt, and Annika Liljegren fought through four brackets to bring home double gold.

Beyond the wins and losses, there’s something special about this tournament. An event for women, by women creates a different kind of energy on the mats. We’re always proud to show up, compete hard, support one another, and be part of a community that continues to make more space for women in jiu-jitsu.

Huge congratulations to everyone who stepped up to compete this weekend.

Great job by our six grapplers who competed Good Fight Tournament yesterday. 5 out of 6 competitors left with double gold!

Despite this being a small group we managed to secure a second place finish as well!

Keep up the hard work.

Last night we had a cross promotion event at Kids First Swim School in Dundalk. The event was a lot of fun and hopefully we can do something like it in the future.

If they choose to give BJJ a try, all the kids who came (as well as swimming coaches) will receive a discount on their membership.

Two things you may think you never need but do... Self defense and knowing how to swim.
