I love when a project comes near to a close and a piece of history can be saved. This is the Maynard 2nd Model carbine I got in about a month ago give or take. When it came in, it was beyond seized and rusted shut, had stuck screws all over, had concretions of rust everywhere, and the stock was falling apart from dry rot. With a lot of time, patience, oil, swear words, broken screwdriver bits and drill bits, and much needed help from a friend...this old gal from 1864 that survived the Civil War was not only able to be repaired and restored, but is in completely safe to fire condition and WILL be fired later this week. This is what makes this hobby worth it, to me. To be able to bring these back from the edge is nothing short of awesome.
So i will say it again, if YOU have any guns that look like this...bring them in, I buy them! They are not trash and for God's sake don't throw them away! I can't always save them, and not every piece is even worth saving...but this one certainly was and will remain in my own personal collection for the foreseeable future.
