🐻Meet Hishii (hiss-she), translation: sunflower🌻.

She was in a sunflower patch barely able to move anymore due to starvation. Found on the Mescalero Apache Nation, she was brought to us by Conservation Officer Turquoi Garcia. This 1 year old probably lost mom before going into hibernation. Upon arrival she weighs 22lbs. For comparison, Noelle who was just released is the same age and her release weight was 98lbs.

🦌🫖As we were wrapping up ISH’s party on Saturday we got the call from Officer Garcia and she was brought up to us first thing Sunday morning.

When she arrived she could barely move, but thanks to EmerAid and our starvation protocol she is already moving and exploring her enclosure! 💕

Did you know that all proceeds from ISH’s birthday celebration will be directly donated to wildlife rehabilitation?

We are only a week away from ISH’s birthday celebration, and we still have a few tickets available. This is the only time we open our facility to visitors, so come celebrate with us! This is one of the few fundraising events we currently organize, so your support makes a huge impact. Despite our small size, we are a powerful organization that takes care of large animals.

ISH is slowly getting rid of her winter coat but will be party ready in time! Are you joining us? But before then, she takes her mom duties seriously and ensures to keep a close eye on the boys. First picture is ISH laying guard right outside their pen. You can see she has space to look in on them whenever needed. Second picture is elk calf #1 right before his bottle! They are eating a lot. Elk number two ended up in ICU. He could not swallow. After a naso-gastric tube to feed him and IV fluids to hydrate him, he is finally back in the enclosure with the other elk. Please donate to these guys through our parent organization LEWF. They are drinking 1.5 gallons of special milk daily.

Noelle came in at 17lbs, Friday she went out at 98lbs!! She is ready to take on the summer and continue to get fat for a good winter hibernation. She was READY to go. We are so happy that she is now back where she belongs and is now prepared to be successful. Thank you to all who contributed to help us care for her and those who continue to support our efforts!! 💕🐻

And then there were two!! Another boy was brought to us today. has already done her greetings and he is with the other elk calf. Please consider donating to us at lewf . org to help us feed these two. It’s going to be about $36 a day in just food alone for these two.
