Happy Labor Day! 🇺🇸

Our studios and office are closed today so our teachers and staff can enjoy the day with their own families. All classes resume tomorrow, Tuesday, September 8.

Thank you to every parent working hard for the ones they love. Rest up, dancers — we’ll see you back on the floor! 🐸🩰

Every studio stands for something. These are ours. 🐸💗
Five promises we make to every family who walks through our doors — the things we talk about in staff meetings, in the car on the way home, and sometimes at 11pm when we probably should be sleeping.

🩰 Does your little dancer do any of these during battements?

🐦 Flap their arms like a bird
🙈 Hunch or round their back
⬆️ Rise into relevé when they kick
🦵 Bend their knees
🦶 Lose the point through their foot

These are all common movement habits we see in young dancers, and here are 5 simple ways we help correct them:

✨ 1. Arms stay frozen
Have them hold their arms in position and pretend they are “picture-perfect still” while only the leg moves.

✨ 2. Grow tall through the top of the head
Remind them: “Tall back, chin up.” If the chest starts leaning backward, lower the kick until they can stay upright.

✨ 3. Glue the supporting heel to the floor
If they rise into relevé, cue: “Heel stays heavy.” We want the supporting foot grounded while the working leg kicks.

✨ 4. Straighten both knees before going higher
A lower battement with two straight legs is more important than a high kick with bent knees. Technique first, height later.

✨ 5. Point through the whole foot
Instead of only saying “point your toes,” cue them to point through the arch, ankle, then toes so the entire foot stays lengthened.

At 5 years old, we’re not chasing the highest kick. 💕

We’re building posture, control, straight legs, strong arms, and beautifully pointed feet first.

Once the technique is there, the height can grow with their strength and flexibility. 🌺🩰

What makes Lovely Leaps happy? 💕🩰✨

It’s not perfect pirouettes or pointed toes.

It’s the little dancer who finally walks into class without holding Mom’s hand. 🥹
The first time they perform in front of an audience.
The friendships made in the studio.
The giggles between combinations.
The hugs from their teachers.
The confidence that grows week after week.
And watching a child realize… “I CAN DO THIS!” 💗

Of course, we LOVE teaching dance — but what makes us happiest is watching children grow into confident, creative, joyful little humans.

Because at Lovely Leaps, we’re not just raising dancers.

✨ We’re cultivating a love of dance at an early age — and creating memories they’ll carry long after they leave the dance floor.

That’s what makes us happy. 💕🩰

✨ HOW WE BREAK DOWN CHAÎNÉ TURNS ✨

Beautiful turns don’t start with spinning faster — they start with strong foundations. 💗

When teaching our dancers chaîné turns, we look for:

🩰 Spotting — eyes find the same place every turn
🩰 Strong relevé — heels lifted and ankles supported
🩰 Straight legs — no sinking into the knees
🩰 Tight first position — feet close quickly with every turn
🩰 Strong arms — controlled, rounded, and connected to the body
🩰 Posture — shoulders down, core engaged, body lifted
🩰 Rhythm — even, consistent steps instead of rushing

💡 Tip for young dancers: Don’t practice going FAST first! Practice two slow, beautiful turns → freeze → check your body → repeat.

Once the technique becomes muscle memory, THEN we add speed and traveling. ✨

We’re not just teaching kids how to turn — we’re teaching them how to understand their bodies and build technique one little step at a time. 💕

🎶 WHY DO WE TEACH dancers as young as 3-YEAR-OLDS TO COUNT MUSIC?

Because we’re thinking about the dancer they’ll become at 18. 💗

At Lovely Leaps, musicality starts EARLY. We teach our littlest dancers how to hear the beat, count themselves in, and understand that movement connects to music.

🩰 Ages 3–5: Clap the beat + count out loud
✨ Ages 6–8: Count themselves into combinations
🎶 Ages 9–12: Find the “1” + recognize 8-counts independently
🔥 Teens: Hear the music, count internally + perform without relying on their teacher

We practice it over and over so that by 18, counting isn’t something they have to think about—it’s ingrained in their mind, body & soul. 💕

We’re not only teaching today’s combination. We’re building tomorrow’s dancer. ✨

✨ What do we focus on in our Lovely Leaps Company Team classes? ✨

Yes, we’re building technically strong dancers. 🩰 But our purpose goes far beyond dance.

We know this is their childhood, and we want these years to help shape confident, kind and courageous young women. 💕

Through dance, teamwork and performing, our dancers are learning to:

✨ Believe in themselves
✨ Walk into a room with confidence
✨ Build meaningful friendships
✨ Make others feel welcome
✨ Handle challenges with resilience
✨ Use their voice and know their worth

One day, they’ll take these skills beyond the studio — into interviews, friendships, careers, relationships and every new room they walk into.

We’re not just preparing them for the stage. We’re preparing them for the world. 🌎💗

Want your dancer to grow with us? We’d love to welcome her to the Lovely Leaps family. ✨
