Bay de noc great lakes sport fishermen "Bay de Noc Great Lakes Sport Fishermen, Inc. is an angling club with many projects to enhance fishing in the bays of green bay.

Dedicated to the improvement of sport fishing opportunities in the Delta County area. Our sports fishing club is very involved with kids’ activities in Delta County all year. We are part of the National Forest Service Camp 7 Kids’ Day in June and have a crew of volunteers that do the cooking and serving of the food at this event. We also are a major contributor for prizes for the event. Gladstone Kids’ Derby is held in conjunction with our Wal-Mart Bays Classic Walleye Derby. Great prizes and again free lunches are provided. The 4th Saturday in September is National Hunt & Fish Day celebration at the Great Lakes Sport and Recreation Club in Escanaba. The club sets up our fish pond and the kids are lined up to fish all day. We are also a major contributor for all the prizes for this event. The club holds several fishing contests during the year, starting with Early Bird Walleye Derby in June, followed by the . The Bays Classic is in August and the final Walleye Tournament is the Last Chance held in September. The club leases land from Lyme great lakes timberland for our walleye rearing pond which is named the Peterson Pond. We pay for all maintenance and supplies that this pond requires. Fertilizer, a big cost item, is added to the water for plankton growth. When the walleye eggs hatch the very little hatchlings are planted into the pond. Care is taken to monitor the water and test for the proper amount of plankton for the walleye to feed on. Approximately six weeks after planting, the fingerling walleye are netted from the pond and planted in our Bays and other lakes in Delta County. This club is also actively involved with the Michigan DNR Fishery Division, helping them form computer models for planting, netting and egg take in the spring, serving on DNR Committees and advising on sport fishing issues in Delta County. Hello everyone. The TV6 show Discovering did a full episode on our very own Bay Area Veterans Fishing Derby which was held this year on 29 Aug. This is our 5th year hosting this great event. As always, this is 100% free for the Veterans, and every one of them also came home with some type of raffle prize.

We cannot thank the Boat Captains enough for donating their time and boats to this great cause. Also, another special thank you needs to go to our 28 great sponsors!

The BDNGLSF Last Chance Walleye tournament was held yesterday, Saturday, September 5th with 22 teams. The weather decided to play nice as winds laid down compared to Friday, making getting around manageable and the fishing a little more enjoyable. As usual, both casting and trolling methods were used to catch fish. At the weigh in, some pretty cool stories were told, including catching big fish within the final minutes of the day!

Special shoutout to Jeff Sierpien, Carol Chenier, and Jenna Chenier for running the weigh in. Jeff is a BDNGLSF board member who is very active and well known for supporting fishing initiatives and events. Chenier's Reef also provided a meal for participants at the weigh in - much appreciated, thank you!

In addition to cash payouts, gift cards and a bag of lures from Beaver's Lures were presented to top teams. Jerry Plourde also won a randomly drawn L & M gift card! On Saturday 29 Aug, the Club hosted the 5th Annual Bay Area Veterans Fishing Derby. 26 local area Boat Captains took out 65 Veterans for a day of fishing and fun. After the fishing trip, the Veterans were furnished a big lunch in the basement of St. Anne’s church. Right after the luncheon, each Veteran won great prizes. As always, this event was 100% free to the Veterans.
