🧐Force–Velocity Profiling: Game-Changer or Time-Waster?

In theory, it’s brilliant—map out an athlete’s strengths and weaknesses, then tailor training to their unique profile. Coaches everywhere latched onto it as the next big thing.

In this podcast, Paul Comfort lays out the drawbacks:

šŸ‘‰Most of the research is done on Smith machines, not free weights.

šŸ‘‰It’s time-consuming—not exactly practical for team settings.

And according to Professor —one of the most published researchers in strength & conditioning—you can usually get the same answers with far simpler tests.

So, is the F–V profile actually giving us new information… or just confirming what we already know?

We dig into this controversy—and a whole lot more—in my latest podcast episode with Paul Comfort:

Gold jacket? Green jacket? IR? ER? Who gives a s**t?

This week and I talk about what really matters as a business owner in the fitness industry: surviving to keep the lights on another day.

We talk burnout, leadership, navigating complex relationships, and what is really takes to survive.

This one's not just for gym owners. If you coach, manage, or lead people there are a lot of lessons in there..and if nothing else it might normalize the fatigue we all face trying to "do the damn thing"

Soft skills for hard times

Many psychological traits are plastic. Trying to download a hype video, motto, or pre game speech is not a solution, although it might be a spark.

Neuroplasticity involves structural changes...in other words you can't just download the new iPhone update (software), you need the new iPhone (better hardware!). This takes time, persistence, and consistency.

Mental toughness, for all its jargon, is likely an internally mediated process...you cannot control the weather, but you can pack an umbrella.
