Vision Quest Sport Fishing

Vision Quest Sport Fishing Sport Fishing Adventures on lake Erie for Walleye, Steelhead, and Many other sport fish It is often how you handle those days that separate Captains.

Success in the late 80’s and 90’s was a box full of fish; I guess that was just my youth which created that attitude. Now, a successful day on the water for me and my clients is first being comfortable, safe and having a good experience. The experience and the time well spent can more that offset a tough day on the water because “there will be tough days”, no matter how good I am or any Captain is

. However, the plan is still to go for that box full of fish and my motto “Leave No Fish Behind” is proof. Vision Quest is one of the most successful fishing operations in operation today.

Well, 2 consistent days and weighing our (5) allowable steelhead both days along with salmon allowed us to finish 2nd. I love the format of this event and targeting pellets as part of the strategy. We generated around 30 steelie bites this weekend and another 18 or 19 salmon bites. We fished our own spot and in parts unknown🙂. We lost 4 big kings on spoons this WE, which was frustrating. Saturday we lost some big pellets also. We ran all Dreamweaver mags, regulars and slims and trolled hot. My Team consisted of: Roger, Jim, (McShane Welding crew)Eric ( meat stick) and son Colton.
Congrats to Captain Johnathan of Team Tomahawk on the win aided by Captain Roy from Olcott.

Niagara Pro Am brief recap: VQ after good day 1 had tough day 2. Concluded by breaking down as soon as we powered up to make weigh-in. Water pump belt came off, motor overheated and lost coolant. UGHH Came in on one motor and 30 minutes late. Upside is we didnt have a top 5 box and it didnt cost us, which woulda felt even worse and we were only 6 miles from port and not 20. It woulda been a long A-- ride home on one. But boat issues are all part of the game. VQ sponsored Dirty Vision team consisting of the "young guys" again with Captain Roy had a good day 1 also and almost good day 2. (see FB post-attached) To expand on it, they tossed back a legal fish unintentionally and stopped short of their 12 fish box early because of that, returned to port and advised the tourney director well before weigh-in. (integrity!) They were permitted to weigh under review. A voluntary and rightful protest was filed by Team Thrillseeker, won by them, Team DV was allowed to withdraw. This knocked Team DV out of Day 2, 5th and final pay spot. For those wondering or asking-this is a recap in a nutshell. Mistakes happen and sometimes hurt (monetarily also). Team DV will be back in 2027 we hope and Team VQ is headed to the Orleans Open after a couple weekday trips at weeks end. Congrats to Legacy Sport Fishing on a big win-and a great week in Niagara, he is a fellow "death rig" tandem single hook meat rig guy also- It was another well run event in Niagara by TD Penny and her volunteers. Thanks to all of the sponsors as well as the event organizers.

OFFICIAL SCORES for today***

Congratulations to Team Legacy 1st place Pro and
Salmontation Warship 1st place AM!

All teams are to be commended for their efforts. I'd like to specifically acknowledge Roy Letcher, whose team made the honorable decision to withdraw his catch due to an error. This action upholds the integrity that this tournament strives to maintain. Roy's display of honesty and sportsmanship is truly appreciated. Given the demands of the competition, it's not always possible to investigate every matter immediately. I'm grateful for Roy's understanding and appreciate his accountability in this instance. His conduct is a testament to the values of honesty and integrity.

I look forward to next year. Thank you again to all volunteers, participants and sponsors!

Beautiful day on Lake O. Fished east of port targeting salmon and lakers. Nice pick all day going 19/35. Cowbells, DW spoons and occasional meat bite. Fished 85-265 fow. Best was under 120 for us.

Friday Wilson report: it was a picture perfect morning- clear skies and 8” chop-enough to keep bugs from hatching 👏🏻. Scanned from 60-220 fow to west/NW. Did not see any picture that was good. After 25 min of scanning, we deployed the spread. It was not long and the Big Jon Brutes were sucking in the v***r salmon and twanging the aluminum arms. We had a steady bite on kings from 35-75 down but still working a v***r screen. After 90 minutes we were 6/15. Ughhhhhhhh. The center rigger which had a Ffly finally got benched for DW mag and DW regular. It fires several times immediately after💪. The 180-230 water eventually dried up and we went biteless for 30 min. So needing 6 more for a 5 man, I pointed in south to 75-90 fow and rods started firing. We went 7/13 on an easterly troll. Finishing 16/34 just before 11.
DW sized spoons seemed better for us after bite turned picky.
