A&K Skill Development A&K is a basketball training service Founded by Raphell Thomas-Edwards and A'darius Porter A’Darius Porter and Raphell Thomas-Edwards of A&K skill development.

Both played their last two collegiate basketball years for John T. Reilly on the Gannon University Men’s Basketball team ending their careers on the PSAC championship team. A’Darius Porter is originally from Atlanta, Georgia and attended John Wood Community College in Quincy, Illinois. There he learned success comes from hard work one of the foundations of their business. He was named Captain of t

he John Wood Basketball team which helped him develop his leadership role and basketball skills to a point in which he earned an athletic scholarship to Gannon University. Raphell Thomas-Edwards is originally from Leicester, England and after playing for the English national team he came to the United States on a full basketball scholarship to the University at Buffalo. He then transferred to Gannon University, playing alongside A'darius Porter, where they both had great success individually and as a team. Along with the achievement of basketball at Gannon University, They have also successfully completed their respective degrees in the fall of 2015. Life after college is bright for both of them. They are on track for completing their original goals and aspirations with A'darius Porter going on to obtain his Masters in Business Administration, as well as Raphell Thomas-Edwards having a very promising professional basketball career. Fortunately, they have both been met with a very exciting opportunity, which is their vision: A&K skill development.

“What is A&K skill development?” It is a skill development service that we have great pride and confidence in. We use our passion, experience and knowledge to help kids learn the fundamentals of basketball and important life traits in the process. We think the biggest problem in the youth basketball community is that some kids get lost in the team. While we have tremendous coaches around us, sometimes it is hard for them to focus on individual players and give them the attention that they need to develop. Currently, kids have to wait until the summer camps to get better leaving months to be wasted without the knowledge they need. That is why our slogan is, “Bring the ATTITUDE, We’ll provide the KNOWLEDGE”. At this time we have numerous kids that we train and each one of the families that we have worked with describe our service as exceptional and have recommended us to friends.

Over the past 8 years, our journey at St. Ben's East 10th Street has been nothing short of amazing. We are immensely grateful to everyone who has been part of this incredible experience. However, as time and life progress, we believe it's time to embrace a new chapter. Soon, we will be bidding farewell to our current facilities and excitedly announcing the forthcoming location of our new facility.

This move is motivated by our unwavering commitment to providing each individual with an even more exceptional and improved quality basketball training experience. We believe that this change will enable us to elevate our services and create an environment that fosters growth, development, and success for all our athletes.

We cannot wait to share the details of our new facility with you all. It will mark the beginning of an exciting new phase for our basketball training business, and we look forward to making unforgettable memories together once again. Thank you for being part of our journey, and we sincerely appreciate your continued support as we embark on this new adventure together. Stay tuned for the big reveal!

FAREWELL AND BEST WISHES TO FERN!
It is with great pride that we wish Fern congratulations and good wishes as he relocates to Washington, DC to be a Retail Coordinator at Monumental Sports & Entertainment, which is one of the largest integrated sports and entertainment companies in the country with one of the most diverse partnerships groups in all of sports.

Fern has been a valued member of A&K since 2018 having started as a part-time training growing into his current role as Manager/Head Trainer. Fern wants to tell all A&K participants, “The memories I will cherish the most are the connections that I built with the kids, parents and staff the most from my time working at A&K”.

A’darius commented, “Fern showed a tremendous investment toward the players in the program. He has recently aided in successfully sending a few players to play at the next level. Fern allowed A&K to continue to grow with his presence and attention to the customer experience. He brought alternative perspectives and allowed us to implement additional drills into our A&K curriculum.”

Current players and new members will not experience any interruptions in their training as A’Darius will be the interim Manager.

Make sure to send Fern a congratulations as he heads to Washington on November 25, 2022. Congrats and best wishes Fern!
