What a swim teacher’s sports bra looks like right before it goes into the trash! It’s only one summer session old! Used to be black. Trashed!

Love this!!! I’m sure there were tears to get there, don’t think she didn’t cry initially. It’s a part of the process! Some parents just expect their kids to never cry, but they do and it’s ok. Trust the process.

I feel bad when I tell parents to not use puddle jumpers. They look at me like I’m crazy, like I’m calling them a bad parent. I’m not trying to offend them, but after teaching swimming for 20 years, literally 20 years, I can point out a puddle jumper/life jacket kid in an instance. They stand up in the water and it’s hard to break them of it. Muscle memory is a real thing. It’s not impossible to unlearn, but it’s so much easier to just teach kids their boundaries and then stay alert while they’re swimming. Keep them

Buoyant foam floaties (aka “puddle jumpers” or “water wings”) are cute, and convenient. But experts have concerns. Here’s what to know before you buy them. https://nyti.ms/4vGExyJ

See I’m not the only “mean” swim teacher that gets out and grabs my students and throws them in! It’s good for them! They can’t know what they know until they have to show THEMSELVES!

Today’s parent tot class was sooooo cute! I just love every single expression and face! It’s sooo fun! Especially when they start to enjoy the water! Yay for safe babies! Let me know if you want to join parent tot! Becca Proper

I don’t do quite as difficult as ISR, but I try to have my students learn as comfortably and safely as possible. It’s worth it. Trust the process.

“I can’t believe you’d put your kids in ISR, it’s so traumatic!!”

No… you know what’s traumatic? Losing your child.

ISR (Infant Swimming Resource) teaches babies as young as 6 months how to survive in the water if the unthinkable happens. Not just “swim” but survive.

The focus isn’t on swimming laps. It’s on floating. Because swimming is exhausting for little bodies. They learn to swim just enough to turn themselves onto their back, float, breathe, and rest. Then repeat. That’s what saves lives.

Lessons are only 10 minutes a day.

Is it hard at first? Yes, mostly for the parents. Watching your child learn something new is uncomfortable sometimes. But within days, something clicks. They gain confidence. They understand what to do.

And by the end?
They can fall into the water fully clothed, shoes and all, and know how to save themselves.

That is worth the price and commitment to me.
