Really good advice on puddle jumper safety.

There’s nothing scarier to me than seeing a puddle jumper lying by the side of a pool… and no child in sight.

That tells me there’s a little one who can’t swim… and isn’t wearing the thing they depend on to stay afloat. That’s a terrifying combination.

Here’s my advice:

🛟 If you use a puddle jumper, have your child wear it ONLY when they are NOT swimming.
It should be their “dry land” gear, not their swimming tool.

👨‍👩‍👧‍👦 When it’s time to swim, YOU get in the water with them—one-on-one.
Let them feel what water is really like. Not to scare them, but to help them respect it. To begin understanding it.

Because real water safety starts with awareness, not a floatation device.

Let’s change the way we think about “safe.”
Let’s teach them what it means to really “swim”.

This is so true what SwimKids says, every stroke builds confidence in your child. I see it daily. It helps in so many aspects of life, not just in the pool. Listen to what one of my parents told me about their child after taking 8 lessons. “Swim lessons has changed my little boy. He is better behaved, more respectful and resilient! I’m signing him up for another round! We need Miss Becca in our lives!” That’s such a compliment, but I know that the confidence from swim really adds to kids who need just a bit of a boost in self-esteem and skills!

It’s so misunderstood why floaters and puddle jumpers are actually teaching your child false security. If a child goes into the water over and over with one, they feel secure. All it takes is one time to forget they don’t have it on and mom not looking.

Agreed! I always teach my students to understand how water works and RESPECT the water and how they have to interact with it safely. Swimming Safely with Becca that’s what I teach.

Join me for parent tot weekly. There is A LOT of crying accompanying these lessons, but better to have uncomfortableness while these kids are learning in a safe environment than 100% crying when/if a child finds themselves in precarious situations.
