It is tough to argue how wonderful summer is, but it can sabotage on your workouts if you are not careful. Youโ€™ve worked so hard this year to get in shape and get your body healthy. However, when summerโ€™s hectic schedule changes things, it is easy to lose motivation to workout. Here are a few things you can do to help you stay motivated to workout over the summer.
โ€ขPlan. Plan. Plan.
If you just say you are going to workout โ€” chances are you wonโ€™t. However, if you plan a consistent time to workout and add it to your calendar and set reminders the odds of you working out are much greater. Youโ€™ll have better results with a regular routine. Plus when youโ€™re trying to plan a trip or summer activity, you will see you already have plans to workout. Maybe even cutting your workouts in half, but increase the intensity;) It is easier to schedule and offers fewer excuses. No matter how hot it is 30 minutes is doable. Try a simple Tabata or Intervals.
โ€ขTake Your Workout Outside ๐Ÿ˜Ž
It is summer, get outside and enjoy the beautiful weather. If you are getting stuck on getting to the gym, try the backyard, pool, park? Talk to your personal trainer or Coach to get exercises that are easily adaptable to outdoors. Do you have resistance bands?? Kids sports equipment? Outside games?Do you have bodyweight or corrective exercises you could do or need work on? ๐Ÿค”I can keep going....๐Ÿ˜€
โ€ขSet Goals ๐Ÿ“๐Ÿ“ˆ๐Ÿ“…
If you have a goal, youโ€™ll be more motivated to succeed. Try setting small weekly goals. Make it more about fitness vs. food. As you meet each goal, you'll want to complete the next weekโ€™s goal even more.
โ€ขJoin a group program ๐Ÿ˜ƒ๐Ÿ‘ฏโ€โ™‚๏ธ
Not only is group fitness having a moment, but it's having a significant impact on our health, too.
Research shows that the healthy actions of others rub off on us. A study published in the Journal of Social Sciences found that participants gravitate towards the exercise behaviors of those around them. And a 2016 study published in the journal Obesity found that overweight people tend to lose more weight if they spend time with their fit friends โ€” the more time they spend together, the more weight they lose.
Which makes a pretty strong argument for making your workouts communal. But itโ€™s just one of many reasons why it may be easier (and more enjoyable) to get fit in a pack. Want some kool-aid??๐Ÿ‘ฏโ€โ™‚๏ธ๐Ÿ˜ƒ
โ€ขDonโ€™t Let Summer Takeover๐Ÿคช
With vacation, family gatherings, and barbecues, summer offers up a lot of temptation to get lazy and indulge yourself. It is okay to an extent, but donโ€™t settle for the excuse, "that it is summer, Iโ€™ll get back to it next week." Odds are you will not. Itโ€™s okay to have fun and cheat a little on your diet, but donโ€™t let summer take your hard work away.
So remember, just because summer is here; your workout should not go on vacation. ๐Ÿ’ช๐Ÿผ๐Ÿ˜Ž

As a coaching team at FXT , we always emphasize having correct form before increasing the weight. The most obvious reason is that trying to lift heavy with incorrect form is just asking for an injuryโ—๏ธ. If you learn form & technique correctly , youโ€™ll be adding weight quickly and wonโ€™t need to break bad habits. By trying to go too heavy too fast (trial by error), youโ€™re only making it harder for your brain to decipher the correct motor sequence. ๐Ÿ’ช๐Ÿผ๐Ÿค“๐Ÿ‹๐Ÿฝ. This goes for warming up a lift as well! Why do you think professional athletes warm-up on a PVC pipe, use the Burgener warm-up, etc. They are priming their muscle memory to perform the lifts correctly at little to no weight, and before they start to work up to the ridiculous amount of weight they can lift. ๐Ÿ’ช๐Ÿผ. There are other benefits to learning the proper technique prior to increasing the weight. We talk all the time about the benefits of lifting light until you learn the proper form, and this is why. While you may be physically strong enough to lift heavier weights, using the incorrect form will only increase the length of time it will take you to learn proper form. โฐ๐Ÿ˜ƒ.
So how many reps does it take to master a lift? If you research that question, you find a lot of different answers, from 3000 to 100,000 repetitions, to 30,000 hours of practiceโ€ฆ The real answer is that there is no answer. It depends on a variety of factors, such as the complexity of the movement, what distractors are in the environment, how you are feeling that day, etc. โ€ผ๏ธ.
So while we canโ€™t tell you how long it will take before you become proficient at a lift, we can tell you to listen to your coaches if they tell you to hold off on adding weight. Adding weight slowly takes a lot less time and effort to become proficient, and it will save you frustration in the long run! ๐Ÿ˜€
