Get ready for your upcoming race
Hi Runner:
We can't wait to see you next weekend for the Iron Will Backroads. Please read through the event details so you are ready for a great day.
Pre Race:
Packet pickup starting at 5am at Enterprise Scout House, 300 S. Grant. Pre-race briefing will start at 5:50am.
Racer Information:
Only cutoff is 6pm Sunday
Course Information:
50K will complete one 8.7 mile loop followed by 2 loops of 11.15 miles for 31 miles.
100K will complete one 6.65 mile loop followed by five 11.15 mile loops for a total of 62.35 miles.
100 Milers will complete nine 11.15 loops for a total of 100.35 miles.
ALL 11.15 LOOPS ARE LOLLIPOP MILE LOOPS, MEANING THERE A SHORT OUT AND BACK (STEM) TO THE 6 MILE AID STATION.
50K and 100K will be given special instructions for their first loop at pre-race briefing.
Course will be marked at the turns with blue reflective flags only. All blue flags will be placed on the side of the road in which you will be turning that direction. You must make sure race personnel records your bib number at each aid station-the 6 mile turnaround AND the main aid station INSIDE the Scout House. When running on the roads, you must run against the flow of traffic so that would be the left side reflective gear at night is recommended. these are very low traffic areas, and you will travel portions with no traffic at all. The blue flags will always be on the side that you are getting ready to turn so most of the time they will be across the road from when you are running on the right side of the road as most of your turns are right turns. There is no alcohol use allowed on the rail-trail portion of the course per trail rules. There will be a passenger train on the railroad beside the trail from time to time. It will be moving very slow-slower than you can run. There are three places on the trail that cross the railroad tracks. If the train is there, you must yield and wait on the train. The train only runs during daytime hours, so no worries about overnight. Please abide by these rules as this is the first overnight race allowed and we don't want to upset adjoining landowners or the railroad association.
Aid Stations:
There will be an aid station at the end of the stem of the lollipop at 6 mile, at 412 South Campbell, Abilene, KS (Dickinson County Heritage Center). Main aid station is at Enterprise, Kansas Scout House at the corner of 4th and Grant. Please do not park between the two orange cones, as they are part of the course. Heritage Center aid station will have hydration and snack-no hot foods. Scout House aid station will have common aid stations foods. We are planning hotdogs at lunch Saturday, pizza for supper Saturday, burgers for lunch Sunday.
