As we celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month, USTA Colorado will be highlighting people of hispanic heritage in the Colorado tennis community who share their passion for the sport.

This week we are spotlighting Kenny Orive!

Kenny was born in Mexico, but his family moved to Colorado when he was young. He played tennis for Lakewood’s Alameda High School and, while he received some offers to play tennis at NCAA Division II schools, Kenny knew that he wanted to coach more than he wanted to play. “In 2017, I started by teaching a few independent clients on public courts,” says Kenny. His clientele and his love for coaching both continued to grow, and he now brings his passion for the game to his role as the Junior Development Program Coordinator at the Randy Ross Tennis Center in Englewood.

Kenny’s objective as a coach is to grow the game of tennis. He is driven to guide high-performance players to push boundaries and excel in every way and to expose new players to the fun and beauty of the game. Having a background and experience in performance psychology, athletic training, kinesiology, and high-performance athletics, he is able to help clients improve on all fronts: mentally/emotionally, technically and physically.

Kenny is an advocate for accessibility for all sports, as he frequently volunteers to host wheelchair tennis clinics across the state, as well as volunteering in programs to help socioeconomically disadvantaged kids play tennis.

Kenny’s interest and involvement in tennis goes beyond his on-court presence. He has served on the USTA Colorado Board of Directors and various USTA Colorado committees. His impact in his off-court tennis contributions are just as great as his on-court ones.
