This says it all…
65 games cheered, cover three sports, the longest season in high school athletics, and little to no recognition. We have always understood that we exist only because our football and basketball teams exist. That’s something we do not take lightly. We love our teams…we are cheerleaders, it’s our job. When our teams win, we win! When our teams lose, we lose.
Still, it’s very nice to come across someone who gets it. Something that rarely anybody understands who is not a cheerleader or former cheerleader. These girls work harder than most people realize. We cheer whether it is hot, cold, raining, or snowing. The cheerleaders will always be there! So, simply thank you!
We start again in 6 weeks, new squad, same expectations!
Thank you ladies ….
About 15 minutes from championship basketball at the Glass House for the TSSAA girls tournament, I was struck by something.
Last night, as Greenfield’s cheerleaders stood tearfully together after a hard-fought semifinal battle, I realized it’s not just about losing a game.
For those seniors, that was the last time they’d wear a uniform they’ve had since middle school.
After basketball, the season shifts to baseball and fall sports, and then graduation—no more cheerleading.
We don’t always appreciate how much these young women give to their schools, their teams, and their classmates.
Their tears are about the end of an era, the end of a journey with friends they’ve cheered alongside for six, eight, even more years.
Let’s remember these cheerleaders as part of the game we love and honor their dedication.
When they’re emotional, it’s the end of the road for them too.
…. Best of luck in your future endeavors
