“Moving, stretching and breathing seem so simple, but something else happens: the mind rests in the body.”
-- Jivana Heyman
Happy Sunday Blue Moon. When a second full moon squeezes into a month, it becomes a blue moon. This one – on Sunday, May 31 – is a blue micromoon because it’s farther from Earth than the usual distance of 252,360 miles. This micromoon might be small, but it’s fortuitous. Astrologically speaking, when this rare blue moon occurs, it is viewed as a time of manifestation, awareness and release from what no longer serves you. Always a good thing!
This Month at Yoga Magnolia: It’s easy to feel calm and peaceful after stretching every which way for an hour, but the real challenge is bringing your practice off the mat. Yes, you’re calm, restful and full of peace after yoga, but what do you do when you don’t get your way. For those moments, good orderly direction can really help once the physical effects of an hour’s practice wear off. Even if you rely on your Christian tradition for guidance, it’s good to learn about other paths to peace of mind. The sage Patanjali wrote the Eight Limbs of Yoga in 400 AD, known as the Yoga Sutras – and we will have readings about the Limbs throughout the month of June.
Breath of the Month: In May, we practiced three minutes of Bee Breath, which I think is my favorite breath – so restful – and so good for the lungs. In June we will practice the Ha Kriya, stabilizing the breath while we sit in Goddess and punching our arms rigorously up and then out. This is going to clear away any excess stagnation you may be feeling from the winter.
No class on Tuesday, June 9: I have another medical test at Duke, so I won’t make it back in time for the 8:30 a.m. class on Tuesday. We will have a 6 p.m. class on that Tuesday though.
Happy Anniversary to Yoga Magnolia: The studio opened its doors on June 21, 2011, on the summer solstice. This year’s summer solstice falls on Sunday, June 21, so as a celebration of 15 years at Yoga Magnolia and in gratitude to my students, there will be a free class on Saturday, June 20.

Need a tune-up? Do you need to be more energetically balanced? Would you like to reduce anxiety and stress and feel calm? Biofield Tuning is a form of energy medicine that uses sound waves, produced by tuning fork vibrations, to re-tune the body out of patterns of stress and tension. During a Biofield Tuning, a client lies fully clothed on a treatment table as a tuning fork scans the body. Susanna Martin is now offering this service at the studio. To schedule a tuning, please contact Susanna Martin directly on 201-401-4234.
Om Shanti,
