Flags at federal buildings across New Mexico will fly at half-staff as the country honors music legend Dolly Parton.

President Donald Trump announced Tuesday that American flags would be lowered nationwide for one week following Parton’s death at the age of 80.

Trump called Parton’s passing “a true loss for millions of people” and said the one-week tribute would begin Tuesday evening.

Parton’s legacy also has a direct connection to New Mexico. Her Imagination Library began serving children in Grant County in 2010 before expanding statewide, with nearly 2 million free books mailed to New Mexico families by 2025.

Parton died Tuesday, August 25, in Nashville.
