It was another great week !!!!
Sunday Jenni and I took off on a spur of the moment road trip: Falling Spring, Bootleggars BBQ, Grand Gulf State Park, Mammoth Spring. A needed get away day.

Bob Galbierz spent 3 outstanding days with me catching lots of hard fighting Current River smallies. Bob boated over 150 fish, it was an enjoyable time. Despite the weather forecast all 3 days ended up working out great for us, the wind was a blessing with temp getting into the low 90's.

* Friday met up with Greg Clanahan to pick up some jig heads I ordered from Barker Jig.

We finally got some much needed rain and a rise in river, postponed tomorrow's trip to later. But will be back on river Tuesday.

Another great couple of mid week trips as the summer season gets started. First with Bob Adelsberger and Rick on Tuesday and Wednesday. Bob has fished with me previously and this was Rick's first. They had a standing bet for each day on biggest fish which Rick took the grand prize both days. Bob took the honors 1st day with most fish caught, Rick came out on top day 2. Enjoyed having Bob back on board. These guys caught just over 150 fish.
*Edit forgot to add... while fishing Rick said next one that catches a fish the other buys dinner, Bob caught one almost immediately so Rick had to buy dinner !
Thursday Ed Clausen was with me and friend Jay.
Ed has also fished with me previously. Also Ed was recently appointed to the MDC commission board.
They absolutely put the hammer down on lots of hard fighting smallies along with some nice goggle-eyes, 50+ by noon then they had to depart on to other activities.

It was a fantastic day with this young man this week. A fishing trip was his 16th birthday gift from his parents ! Drake definitely got plenty of action catching lots and lots of hard fighting smallies.
It was a great day and we also done some boat riding to see sights along river.

These 2 die hards didn't let rain stop them. The evening before and early yesterday morning watching weather forecasts we were questioning if we were going to get to go. Decided to give it a go and it started out with just a mist but by mid morning that changed, we had about 3 hrs of rain.
As long as it wasn't t-storms/lightning its all good !
The rain didn’t stop us nor did it stop them from catching. We had a topwater, fluke, spinnerbait, swimbait and bottom soft plastic or jig bite !!!
Figured it was a 70-80 fish day.
It was great to have Kevin and Jeremy back in the boat again, always a great time with them.

*BTW my bilge pump does work...this is a great way to check it out !!!

Words and pictures can barely describe yesterday as the Spring Fling came to an end with Bob ( Robert Chavez ) and Phil's annual trip, 5 yrs running. The Spring Fling this year was 5 consecutive weeks with a trip each week with Bob:
Elmer, Joe, Steve, Xavier, Phil. This started in 2018 from an article that Bill Cooper wrote which Steve read then he and Bob booked a trip. Thanks to Bill, folks Bill is the best with a heart as big as Texas.
Again yesterday Bob and Phil put the hammer down with a "100 fish day" . One of the high lights was Bob catching his first chain pickerel. Lots of hard fighting smallies and many goggle-eyes (some big ones at that) where brought to the boat and released. We saw deer, turkey, eagles, blue and green herons, belted king-fishers, etc, etc.

Just had a fantastic couple days with Tony and Mike. I met Tony at my presentation with Missouri Smallmouth Alliance in 2025, he has done a couple trips since. This time Tony and his high school friend Mike joined bringing his fly fishing skills with him. Both days Mike would get dialed in to what worked best, especially day 2 with a chartuse clouser. Tony put the hammer down with a swim bait. A great time enjoying catching smallies and taking in the scenery, sights, surroundings and fellowship !

Mr Ray Holt (92 yrs young) was back again this time with his nephew JR. It had been a couple years since JR had been here, it was good to have him back in the boat. JR started the day with catching one on the 1st cast, 2nd cast and 4th cast !!! Not only that he had a multi species day catching smallies, goggle-eye, a rainbow trout, drum and a beautiful long-ear sunfish.
I enjoyed listening to them reminiscing about back in the day when they would camp along the river, fishing and spending time with other family members. Ray also told about how they would cross the river in a wagon to go to his grandparents. Ray lived on the west side on Rogers Creek and his grandparents live on the East side on Carrs Creek.
We finished the day with making a run to a stretch that I've been very successful and it payed off with them catching several smallies.

We sure could use some rain !
