Another great two days aboard the Sea Wolf. Yesterday’s group of 20 anglers was pretty content after they caught some rockfish so most retired their rods and hung out. We finished with 20 limits of rockfish and 30 lingcod. Today’s anglers were out for meat with 24 anglers catching limits of both and we are on our way in.

We also had a crazy shark sighting today - came up and swallowed a lingcod right on the surface, so close to the boat it tapped it.. Wish we had some film of it, was a solid 16 to 18 ft white shark.

Just an FYI about Cordell Banks. Inside the red circle is the Cordell Bank Marine Sanctuary and cannot be fished so in reality Cordell Banks itself is off limits. The surrounding area outside of 50 fathoms (300 feet) is now open which still has great fishing in the surrounding area in 300 to 500 feet of water if you can get through the marauding schools of yellowtail and widow rockfish. The lingcod fishing made for a very long day with extremely large baits and sinkers so the school fish wouldn’t attack. We may go up again but it’s not a dream destination.

Saturday July 11th

Another day on the salmon grounds and the quality fish keep showing up. We finished with 22 salmon for 17 anglers. Plenty of bites, plenty of heartbreak, and enough missed opportunities to keep everyone talking on the ride home.

The big fish are here, and it’s only getting better.
