Happy Father's Day to the man we can all thank for getting us into this racing crap.

You may have gotten fired from your Crew Chief duties after a few (ok a lot) minor incidents in the bando world... wheels falling off, chains falling off, cars blowing up, and pretty much every mechanical disaster possible. Thankfully Levi stepped in and showed us there was actually some potential there with a different set up guy. Then thank goodness for 860 Motorsports for the Legend. 🤣

Even though you've never driven a race car in your life, thank you for always knowing exactly what Rylan is doing wrong and exactly what he needs to do differently. One of these days when he tells you, "If you think you can do better, do it yourself," we're all going to expect you to climb in the car and show us. Then again... maybe don't. We already tear up enough as it is. 😂

But in all seriousness, thank you. Thank you for the sacrifices, the long drives, the late nights, the stress, the money, and everything else that comes with racing. Because let's be honest... without you, Rylan wouldn't be racing. I sure as heck ain't paying for it. 💸🤣

And Happy Father's Day to all of Rylan's racing dads too. Last year it was Levi, this year it's CJ, Stan, Daniel, and all the others whose names I may not know but who spend their days helping him, teaching him, cheering him on, and treating him like one of their own. It truly takes a village to raise a racer, and we appreciate every single one of you.

Round 3 of Summer Shootout is in the books.
We didn't make a post before the race because, honestly, we're still pretty torn on this series. Racing is supposed to be fun and competitive, but lately it's becoming harder and harder to find clean racing.

That said, there were some positives. Rylan had his best qualifying run of the season, putting the car 4th for the feature. We're extremely proud of the work he has put in and thankful for the coaching and support from the team at 860 Motorsports. The improvement in his driving has been huge, and it showed tonight.

The race itself started off promising. We got shuffled back on outside a few spots early but still had a car capable of racing our way forward. Then our night changed in a hurry when another car drove straight through the back of us, spinning us around and sending us to the rear of the field. It wasn't hard racing for position, and it wasn't a racing deal where two cars got together. We simply got run over.

At some point you start asking yourself when enough is enough. And it's not just us. Week after week, it seems like more drivers are using the car in front of them as a brake pedal rather than setting up a clean pass. That's not the kind of racing we enjoy, and it's not the kind of racer we're trying to develop.

We know we could race the same way, and probably come away with better finishes. But that's not who we are. We try to race people the way we want to be raced. We believe in earning positions, racing with respect, and keeping our competitors' equipment in one piece whenever possible. That's how Rylan has been taught, and that's how we'll continue to race. Accidents are accident. But these arent accidents.

The bright spot is that the speed is there. Our best qualifying effort yet. More confidence behind the wheel. More progress every week. The finishing result may not show it, but Rylan continues to improve, and we're proud of that.

Round 3 gave us our best qualifying run of the season, but unfortunately about the same result. This time, though, it wasn't because we lacked speed. We are slowly putting together everything 860 gives us every week!

Well...Rounds 1 and 2 are in the books, and honestly, we're not really sure what to say about them. Summer Shootout is always tough, but these first two rounds were extra rough.

There's a lot we could say, but... Round 1: We probably shouldn't have even been on the track. The race was run on a very wet surface, and we were on regular tires. We have never raced in the rain or on dirt before, so this was very different for us. We made the A Main, got moved around several times, ended up making contact with another driver, and then got hit from behind, ending our night.

Round 2: Mother Nature wasn't finished with us. After another wet afternoon, the lineup was based on Round 1 finishing points. Since we didn't finish the first race, we had to start near the back of the field. Unfortunately, we got caught up in a multi-car pileup. We were one of the last cars collected in it, and after what felt like forever getting unstuck, we made it to the hot pit, got back on track, and finished the race—but once again with a race car that was pretty torn up.

Needless to say, it's been a frustrating start. This is our first Summer Shootout in a Legend Car, and we knew it wasn't going to be easy. We're racing against a large field of incredibly talented drivers, and that's a whole different challenge than many of the local (CLEAN) races. Rylan's spirits are still high. He hasn't lost his determination. Racing is full of highs and lows, and sometimes the lows teach you the most. So we'll fix the car, load it back up, and head to Round 3 next week ready to give it another shot. That's what racers do. Well, until you just can’t anymore!

Thank you to everyone who continues to cheer Rylan on through the good nights and the tough ones. We appreciate every message, every comment, and every bit of support. If only EVERYONE understood racing and the talent that he is up against at events like this. You can’t compare this year to last year. We aren’t in bandos anymore, it takes time! We are learning and that’s ok! Sometimes, it goes back to the saying you learned in middle school. If you have nothing nice to say just don’t say anything at all. (For the people who dont understand and make comments)

Here's hoping Round 3 treats us a little better!

Well... the time has come. 😬

The Cookout Summer Shootout at Charlotte. Or the Charlotte Summer Shootout. Or the Cookout Charlotte Summer Shootout. Honestly, whatever it is....

The last time we visited Charlotte Motor Speedway was for the Roval, where Rylan got so familiar with the medical center that I was starting to wonder if they were going to put his picture on the wall and give him his own parking spot. 😳

This will be Rylan's first Summer Shootout in a Legend Car, and he's got a lot to learn but we are getting there. Thankfully, everyone at 860 Motorsports has spent countless laps helping him get comfortable, teaching him what he needs to know, and preparing him for this moment. The practice laps are over and now it's up to Rylan to take everything he's learned and put it all together on race night.

We'll be competing in the Young Lions division, and from what we're hearing, there are already more than 150 cars signed up across all divisions. 😳

Over the next 8 weeks we'll race 10 times. Everyone around here is excited about 10 races in 8 weeks. (Who am I kidding? It'll probably be more than 10 races because I'm sure the boys will decide we need to race on a few weekends too.) Rylan is excited. His dad is excited. The race team is excited. Meanwhile, I'm over here looking at the calendar wondering how August is still so far away. 😅

We're ready to learn every time we hit the track. If nothing else, we're hoping Charlotte remembers us for our racing this summer and not our frequent flyer miles with the medical center earlier in the year.

This year we are giving the Cookout Summer Shootout Series at Charlotte Motor Speedway a shot in the Legend Car! That means 8 weeks of racing and 10 rounds of chaos, and living at the race track all summer long. 😂

Now listen… technically I don’t fund this operation — his dad does. I just suffer the consequences when it starts interfering with my cruise fund and vacation money. 😭 Apparently race car parts are “more important” than family vacations and keeping me happy. Who knew?

This sport definitely isn’t cheap, but Rylan loves it, and honestly… mama loves that it keeps him busy, focused, and out of trouble at home. So if going broke means making memories and chasing dreams, I guess we’re all in. Well, only because he’s making me make this post

Well… we finally found some SPEED this weekend 👀🏁

Back for our second trip to Shenandoah Speedway and Rylan was loving every second of it. We had the fastest practices we’ve had yet: 🔥 P2 first practice 🔥 P4 second practice 🔥 Qualified P3 before our fastest laps got taken away for going below the white line.

First we were told they were taking his fastest lap, moving us to P5… then later they came back and said they were taking several laps, which moved us to P7… but hey, that’s racing sometimes 🤷‍♀️

Race 1 we finished 8th after getting shuffled back on a choose during a caution.
Race 2 we were having a really solid run sitting in 5th when we got ran into.. Only 4 laps to go at that point, but we kept digging and still brought home another 8th place finish in a mixed field.

Two third place finishes in young lions.

Out of 21 cars, we are happy with our weekend. The finishes may not show it, but this was hands down the best we’ve been yet. Actually good racing, he even took it back to his bando days of loving tearing our nerves up taking it 3 wide at one point.

🏁 We are headed back to Shenandoah Speedway tomorrow for twin races starting at 5:00 PM!🏁

A few weeks ago was our first time at this track, and Rylan absolutely loved it. He has always enjoyed the smaller tracks, so we are excited to get back there, give it another shot, and keep learning every time he gets behind the wheel.

The only thing we came close to winning today… was the “kept the car in one piece” award. And honestly, we’re counting that as a victory because she rolled out of the trailer clean last week—and she’s going back in it the same way. 🙌

Today was… a learning experience. (Heavy emphasis on experience.) Dominion and us have never exactly been best friends in the Bandolero days, and apparently the Legend car wanted to keep that tradition alive. But on paper we finished P10 😉.

But hey—we showed up, we turned laps, and we got some much-needed seat time. That’s what we’re calling progress… for now. 😅

We’ll get there… eventually. Just… maybe not at Dominion. 🫠

We rolled into Shenandoah Speedway for the Showdown—first time ever here—and I’ll admit… we actually love the track. (Don’t get used to me saying nice things about racing.) Rylan said its a fun track to drive.

Friday night: P12

Saturday night: P7 👏 (our BEST finish yet in the Legend… in a combined field of 21 cars, so yes, I can be excited)

AND—wait for it—we didn’t scratch the car, bend anything, OR blow something up this time. Honestly, that might be the biggest win of the weekend.

So naturally… the Travis’s response to having a clean, decent weekend was:
“Let’s push our luck even further.”

Because why stop while we’re ahead, right? 🙃
So now we’re packing it up and heading to Dominion Raceway for ANOTHER first in the Legend tomorrow. At this point we are absolutely testing the limits of whatever good luck we have left.

It’s been a fun two days with the best team. 860 Motorsports alway gives us a fast car… it’s just on us to get more seat time, keep learning, and keep inching forward every time we hit the track.

So go ahead—send all the good vibes, prayers, lucky charms, rabbit feet, whatever you’ve got…
because tomorrow we’re gonna need ALL of it for another clean race 🤞
