Well... the time has come. 😬

The Cookout Summer Shootout at Charlotte. Or the Charlotte Summer Shootout. Or the Cookout Charlotte Summer Shootout. Honestly, whatever it is....

The last time we visited Charlotte Motor Speedway was for the Roval, where Rylan got so familiar with the medical center that I was starting to wonder if they were going to put his picture on the wall and give him his own parking spot. 😳

This will be Rylan's first Summer Shootout in a Legend Car, and he's got a lot to learn but we are getting there. Thankfully, everyone at 860 Motorsports has spent countless laps helping him get comfortable, teaching him what he needs to know, and preparing him for this moment. The practice laps are over and now it's up to Rylan to take everything he's learned and put it all together on race night.

We'll be competing in the Young Lions division, and from what we're hearing, there are already more than 150 cars signed up across all divisions. 😳

Over the next 8 weeks we'll race 10 times. Everyone around here is excited about 10 races in 8 weeks. (Who am I kidding? It'll probably be more than 10 races because I'm sure the boys will decide we need to race on a few weekends too.) Rylan is excited. His dad is excited. The race team is excited. Meanwhile, I'm over here looking at the calendar wondering how August is still so far away. šŸ˜…

We're ready to learn every time we hit the track. If nothing else, we're hoping Charlotte remembers us for our racing this summer and not our frequent flyer miles with the medical center earlier in the year.

Send all the luck, prayers, positive vibes, crossed fingers, rabbit feet, lucky socks, and whatever else you've got our wayšŸ€šŸ

This year we are giving the Cookout Summer Shootout Series at Charlotte Motor Speedway a shot in the Legend Car! That means 8 weeks of racing and 10 rounds of chaos, and living at the race track all summer long. šŸ˜‚

Now listen… technically I don’t fund this operation — his dad does. I just suffer the consequences when it starts interfering with my cruise fund and vacation money. 😭 Apparently race car parts are ā€œmore importantā€ than family vacations and keeping me happy. Who knew?

This sport definitely isn’t cheap, but Rylan loves it, and honestly… mama loves that it keeps him busy, focused, and out of trouble at home. So if going broke means making memories and chasing dreams, I guess we’re all in. Well, only because he’s making me make this post

With that being said, we are looking for businesses that would like to sponsor this series and partner with us throughout the summer. We’d love the opportunity to promote and represent your business at one of the biggest summer racing series!

Please send all inquiries directly to us… or honestly just message Travis, because as I’ve already explained, none of this is coming out of my account. šŸ˜‚ But a sponsorship might lower his stress level and increase my chances of getting more family vacations again someday, so really everybody wins.

Well… we finally found some SPEED this weekend šŸ‘€šŸ

Back for our second trip to Shenandoah Speedway and Rylan was loving every second of it. We had the fastest practices we’ve had yet: šŸ”„ P2 first practice šŸ”„ P4 second practice šŸ”„ Qualified P3 before our fastest laps got taken away for going below the white line.

First we were told they were taking his fastest lap, moving us to P5… then later they came back and said they were taking several laps, which moved us to P7… but hey, that’s racing sometimes šŸ¤·ā€ā™€ļø

Race 1 we finished 8th after getting shuffled back on a choose during a caution.
Race 2 we were having a really solid run sitting in 5th when we got ran into.. Only 4 laps to go at that point, but we kept digging and still brought home another 8th place finish in a mixed field.

Two third place finishes in young lions.

Out of 21 cars, we are happy with our weekend. The finishes may not show it, but this was hands down the best we’ve been yet. Actually good racing, he even took it back to his bando days of loving tearing our nerves up taking it 3 wide at one point.

Huge thanks to 860 Motorsports who helps us keep learning and improving every week.

šŸ We are headed back to Shenandoah Speedway tomorrow for twin races starting at 5:00 PM!šŸ

A few weeks ago was our first time at this track, and Rylan absolutely loved it. He has always enjoyed the smaller tracks, so we are excited to get back there, give it another shot, and keep learning every time he gets behind the wheel.

A huge thank you to 860 Motorsports for helping get us where we need to be and for teaching us something every single time we hit the track. We couldn’t do this journey without the people helping us grow along the way.

And of course, thank you to our sponsors for allowing us to keep chasing this dream and doing what we love:

The only thing we came close to winning today… was the ā€œkept the car in one pieceā€ award. And honestly, we’re counting that as a victory because she rolled out of the trailer clean last week—and she’s going back in it the same way. šŸ™Œ

Today was… a learning experience. (Heavy emphasis on experience.) Dominion and us have never exactly been best friends in the Bandolero days, and apparently the Legend car wanted to keep that tradition alive. But on paper we finished P10 šŸ˜‰.

But hey—we showed up, we turned laps, and we got some much-needed seat time. That’s what we’re calling progress… for now. šŸ˜…

Huge thank you to 860 Motorsports for giving us a hot rod—we know it’s fast and exactly where it needs to be.

We’ll get there… eventually. Just… maybe not at Dominion. 🫠

Progress....not perfection was on a rock at the door of the house we stayed at and boy does it have meaning šŸ‘Œ

Pics from the weekend and thank you to Wolfe Pack Racing LLC mom for the professional pictures at the end! ā¤ļø

We rolled into Shenandoah Speedway for the Showdown—first time ever here—and I’ll admit… we actually love the track. (Don’t get used to me saying nice things about racing.) Rylan said its a fun track to drive.

Friday night: P12

Saturday night: P7 šŸ‘ (our BEST finish yet in the Legend… in a combined field of 21 cars, so yes, I can be excited)

AND—wait for it—we didn’t scratch the car, bend anything, OR blow something up this time. Honestly, that might be the biggest win of the weekend.

So naturally… the Travis’s response to having a clean, decent weekend was:
ā€œLet’s push our luck even further.ā€

Because why stop while we’re ahead, right? šŸ™ƒ
So now we’re packing it up and heading to Dominion Raceway for ANOTHER first in the Legend tomorrow. At this point we are absolutely testing the limits of whatever good luck we have left.

It’s been a fun two days with the best team. 860 Motorsports alway gives us a fast car… it’s just on us to get more seat time, keep learning, and keep inching forward every time we hit the track.

So go ahead—send all the good vibes, prayers, lucky charms, rabbit feet, whatever you’ve got…
because tomorrow we’re gonna need ALL of it for another clean race šŸ¤ž

Thank you to our sponsors for allowing us to keep going. Gaffer's Garage Doors of the Triad, LLC and Birdies of Star Hill.

After a month and a half break (and a brand new transmission and motor later šŸ˜…), we’re finally getting back at it this weekend!

We’re headed to Shenandoah Speedway for something completely new—not just a new track for the Legend, but a first for us all together. We’ll be racing May 1st and May 2nd, and we’re excited. (Well, they are -Monica)

For now, we’re hitting pause on the road course and shifting our focus back to oval racing for a little while.

As always, we couldn’t do this without our amazing sponsors—GAFFER’S, Garage Doors of the Triad, and Birdies of Star Hill. We appreciate your continued support more than you know!

And a big shoutout to 860 Motorsports for all the work they’ve put into our car lately. After everything we tackled in Charlotte, they’ve helped get us right where we need to be.

Send us all the good vibes—we’re ready to get back on track! šŸ

We had our sights set on Nashville for the national event, but unfortunately, due to a family medical emergency, we’ve had to make the decision to step back. ā¤ļø

With that being said, after a long (and honestly much-needed) almost 2-month break, we’re excited to get back to racing the first weekend in May! šŸ

As we gear back up, we are currently looking for additional sponsors for this season. We offer flexible options—whether you’re interested in supporting us at local events here in North Carolina or across multiple states throughout our race schedule, we’d love to work with you and find the best fit for your business.

If you’re interested in partnering with us, send us a message—we’d love to talk details!

We’ll be back on the track soon… and we can’t wait. Until then, thank you all for the continued support. It truly means everything to us. šŸ’™

In the meantime be sure to stay up to date with schedule and swag at www.rylanspeight.com

Happy Birthday to Rylan’s dad — the driver’s biggest supporter and the only one in this family brave(that's the PG word for it) enough… I mean supportive enough… to fork over every spare dime for racing. šŸšŸ’ø

Seriously though, we couldn’t do any of this without you. From the long drives, late nights, missing school, and the constant ā€œhe just aint trying,ā€ you make it all happen and we appreciate everything you do more than you know.

Meanwhile, Mom will just be over here dreaming about the exotic vacations and fancy life we’d probably have if racing didn’t exist. šŸŒ“āœˆļøšŸ˜‚

But since racing does exist… thanks for being the one crazy (cough cough again) enough to make it happen for our driver.

Happy Birthday! šŸŽ‚šŸ

Well… if chaos had a race weekend, we’re pretty sure we just sponsored it. šŸ¤¦ā€ā™€ļøšŸ

Speaking of that… after this weekend we might need a few more sponsors. Anybody want their name on a car? Asking for a friend. šŸ˜‚

First day of practice:
Started a little… spicy. We thought this weekend might go smoother since we had a little more seat time since the last. Turns out the track had other plans.

Rylan locked up the brakes and introduced himself to the tire barrier. Not exactly the kind of networking we were hoping for. šŸ™ƒ But 860 Motorsports jumped in and had the car fixed in about five minutes like it was a NASCAR pit stop.

Race Day 1:
For reasons well above my mama pay grade, they combined Semi Pros and Young Lions… with 40 drivers signed up. So naturally, Rylan started 39th. No pressure. šŸ˜…

Unfortunately, we found ourselves in the tires again. A wreck happened in front of him, no caution was thrown, and Rylan locked up the brakes trying to avoid it — which, of course, ended up putting us right in the mess anyway. But that’s just mama talking and what do I know about racing? Absolutely nothing. šŸ¤·ā€ā™€ļøšŸ˜‚

Once again, 860 Motorsports went to work and had the car back together in no time.

Still managed to finish 11th in Young Lions overall, which honestly feels like a win considering our sightseeing trip in the tire barriers again.

Race 2:
Started last, went up a few spots, and made it to the last lap… then BOOM.

We hadn’t been comfortable with braking all weekend, so Rylan was using engine braking / downshifting to help slow the car instead of relying completely on the brakes. Turns out the transmission wasn’t a fan of that strategy… and on the last lap it decided it had done enough for the weekend. šŸ’„

So for the third time this weekend, we loaded the car on the wrecker. At this point, I feel like we should just start paying the tow truck driver rent. šŸš›šŸ˜‚

Race 3 was scheduled for tomorrow, but after the kind of luck we’ve had, we decided it might be best to sit this one out. Sometimes the smartest racing move is knowing when to load it up and live to race another day.

We’ll take a couple weeks to regroup, fix what needs fixing, and be back at it soon.

Huge thank you to 860 Motorsports for working their tails off all weekend and fixing the car every time we found a new way to tear it up. šŸ’ŖšŸ Thank you to our sponsors that give us the opportunity to keep trying! GAFFER'S, GARAGE DOORS OF THE TRIAD, AND BIRDIES OF STAR HILL.
